The Principal Engineer / Principal Consultant shall lead our newly created Subsea Power community of practice and act as the Global Subject Matter Expert (SME) for subsea power engineering related activities. The Principal Engineer will be integrated in the Offshore Wind Group, but will actively work collaboratively or directly with other groups. For clarity, the Principal Engineer is expected to support any offshore wind and non-offshore wind-related subsea power engineering opportunities.
The Principal Engineer will have initially (1) direct report and shall grow a team of at least (3+) subsea power engineers by the end of 2023 contingent on associated workload.

Generic responsibilities include:
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the subject matter groups
- Contribute to business development and tendering activities
- Provide technical assurance on subject matter topics and input to design reviews
- Ensure consistency of approach on technical issues
- Lead the development and capture of subject matter related best practice and valuable third-party knowledge
- Review and ranking of best practice nominated by project personnel
- Update of Wood subject matter procedures
- Maintain Wood subject matter tools e.g. worksheets and FEA models
- Identify skills listed on competency assessment form
- Development of subject matter training material
- Liaise with other SMEs
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain an industry profile as an acknowledged industry expert by sitting on industry discipline related bodies, subsea code committees and publishing technical papers.
Skills / Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications:
- Competency in reviewing, performing, and directing electrical power system studies including short circuit, protective coordination, load flow, dynamic stability, transient study, harmonic analysis, and electromagnetic/thermal finite element analysis of subsea cables
- Competency in power simulation software (ETAP, DigSilent, PSS/E, etc.)
- Knowledge of North American (ANSI, IEEE, etc.) and IEC Standards for the design, testing, and application of offshore power equipment up to 500kV
- Authored scientific papers on subsea cables
- Degree qualified in Engineering (Electrical and / or Mechanical) with 15+ years of experience in Offshore Engineering, Project Management, Design Contractor, or relevant Contracting Company preferred.
