Job description summary
We are seeking a dedicated Civil Structural Engineer with experience in both structural fabrication & construction as well as Civil-Structural engineering and design execution. Air Products is seeking a hard-working and energetic engineer to support the fabrication of large-scale piping and process equipment modules. Industries include Air Separation Units (ASU), Hydrogen Processing Units, Process Gases & Gasification Units, LNG facilities, and Technology improvements.
The role of this position is a dual role of being responsible for supporting the coordination and oversight of structural module yard fabrication with potential of supporting Civil-Structural engineering & design execution work. Typical process related structural modules include pipe rack modules, stacked process equipment modules as well as pipe support & tray systems, equipment supports, and access platform areas.
The roles and responsibilities regarding module yard fabrication will include ensuring contractor fabrication compliance with drawings, specifications, and execution plans. The roles and responsibilities for engineering and design execution role include participation in the Air Products' FEED or Basic Design phase followed by oversight of work you're doing created by the Detailed Engineering & Design (DED) execution centers located in the AP India Pune and Vadodara offices as well as Local Design Institutes (LDIs) in China. Travel to India and China is required.
Principal civil structural engineer accountabilities:
Reviewing fabrication execution plans.
Ensure that the latest drawings, specifications, fabrication strategies, and other contract documents are followed.
Coordinate with Quality Control and the Yard Material Manager to ensure availability of free issues' material for planned scope.
Report fabrication progress aligned with overall schedule requirements and report schedule gaps or slippage.
Respond to site or contractor questions and request for information (RFI)
Coordinate with the AP Engineering office concerning RFI's and Site Technical Queries (STQ's)
Coordinate responses directly back to Module Lead engineer and Project Engineering Manager for home office support.
Oversight of progress and delivery of fit-up, welding, NDT, torque and tensioning or fasteners, blasting and painting, insulation, fire proofing, piping & equipment installation, field activities, and support installation of wiring and cable tray systems.
Coordinate to review weighing procedures and COG markup of modules.
Ensure alignment to result list(s).
Manage Schedule of Result checkpoints
Develop and manage Score Card Checking Management.
Perform Progress assessment / metrics.
Documentation control and record retention.
Attend project & group meetings.
Can interface efficiently with other subject areas, Yard Fabrication Lead, and Project Engineering.
Additional Civil-Structural Engineering Office Responsibilities may include:
Review and develop project scope and execution strategies, including developing multicenter execution strategies involving other Air Products regions and offices.
Review of Detailed Design work produced in our Indian Engineering & Design Center. Work with India DED center personnel in India to align on deliverables, work quality and content, and timing of issuance. Alignment will include providing specific guidance, go-bys, and prescriptive instructions. Routine travel to India offices in Pune and Vadodara will be required.
Review conformance of work you're doing with project specifications, standards, and contract documents.
PE stamping of work.
EPC Oversight: Assist to create & implement oversight strategies of EPC scope execution and work you're doing.
Minimum requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor or Master's degree in civil or Structural Engineering.
PE licensed engineer preferred.
5+ years focused on supporting Structural shop or yard fabrication or construction site activities.
10+ years combined experience of engineering of structural steel, modularization, construction and/or shop fabrication experience. Concrete design, site drainage, and site development is a plus.
Proven leadership work experience from an EPC and EPCM company.
Demonstrated leadership experience and skills including collaborating with teams.
Experience in Refinery / Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, or power industry.
Experience in large scale modularization concepts, design, construction & fabrication, transportation, and installation.
Blast resistant design of modules a plus.
Proficient in using structural analysis modeling software such as RISA or STAAD.
Proficient of industry accepted codes; IBC, ASCE 7, AISC Steel Construction Manual, AISC 341, AWS, ACI 318, and CBC.
Solid understanding of Smart 3D (S3D) software tool or 3D modeling tool.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Multi-office project experience, including international/domestic project customers/locations.
Takes personal responsibility for safety and a balanced environment on the projects and in the office.
