Wood is seeking a Power Process Consultant to join our dynamic team in Tucker, GA. We are looking for an individual with technical and project leadership capabilities. In this position you will provide solutions for your clients and lead project teams to deliver projects.
Wood's Power Engineering group has a legacy of industrial, pulp and paper, and utility power projects that goes back over 50 years. The group performs studies, cycle analysis, and detailed design of power plants ranging from chemical recovery and biomass boilers in the pulp and paper industry, gas turbines as part of simple and combined cycle plants, to thermal utility and industrial plants consisting of boilers of a wide variety of types and fuels. Projects also included power plant air pollution control systems including FGD and SCR systems, as well as water treatment and ash management.
The Power Engineering group supports Wood's global energy transition initiatives. Our projects include carbon capture, hydrogen generation and use, as well as alternative renewable power generation including geothermal, solar thermal and thermal energy storage. Our project teams are supporting some of the largest energy transition projects in the world.
Key Responsibilities :
- Interface with client and senior project management to define project scope and present technical recommendations
- Plan and execute the process design for various power related project.
- Participate in a multi discipline team for the development of conceptual design and estimates.
- Create equipment specifications, evaluate vendor bid packages and participate in equipment purchase negotiations.
- Understand the project delivery process and help define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals, safety and reliability and improvement efforts.
- Provide engineering expertise to optimize process systems and implement cost reduction opportunities.
- Perform design checking and reviews.
- Mentor junior staff for career development and performance improvement.
- Perform field evaluations and troubleshooting.
- Provide guidance and relevant technical information to mechanical, electrical, structural, estimating and process control disciplines.
Skills / Qualifications
- Role Requirements :
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
- 20-30 years of design experience in power generation and air quality control projects
- Professional Engineer registration
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead a team of engineers and designers
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering and scientific principles
- Ability to interface with internal team and client effectively and efficiently
- Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Experience :- Field engineering experience, including startup and commissioning
- Project management skills and experience.
- Working knowledge of processes including steam systems, compressed air systems, boiler and chiller plants, combustion turbines, and power generation.
- Working knowledge of hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, carbon capture technology and equipment.
- Construction or operating plant experience
- Cost estimating experience
Physical Requirements :- Able to do physically demanding field work such as climbing ladders, and carrying back packs with notes and data collecting equipment, etc.
- Must be able to travel without limitations and perform unimpeded standing and walking in industrial and field environments for up to 12 hours per workday
- Must be physically capable of performing work in H&S personal protective equipment
Authorization to work lawfully in the US without sponsorship from Wood is required. Note, this position will consider individuals with less experience than listed above, but requires the willingness to expand skillset.
