Job Overview

Overview The Licensed Mechanical Planner is responsible for providing reliable and responsive Mechanical Engineer support to ensure effective and efficient operations of U.S. Government owned and occupied facilities, associated installed mechanical equipment, and infrastructure. Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company. Major Job Activities: Provides efficient, effective and timely Mechanical engineering expertise, to include but not limited to designs for mechanical systems and military projects, and engineering studies. Performs engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment such as pumps, motors, compressors, ducting systems, fans and more. Oversees installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as centralized heat, gas, water, air conditioning and refrigeration, and steam systems. Completes construction projects by preparing engineering design and documents and confirming specifications. Develops, analyzes, and supports mechanical designs for facilities and infrastructure. Designs construction projects by studying project concept, architectural drawings, and models. Plays a central role in designing state-of-the-art environmental controls, HVAC systems, chilled water plant, boilers and environmental systems. Determines project costs by calculating labor, material, and related costs. Creates feasibility study by analyzing engineering design, conducting environmental impact studies, and assembling data. Produces engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules. Confirms adherence to construction specifications and safety standards by monitoring project progress, inspecting construction site, and verifying calculations and placements. Fulfills project requirements by training and guiding operators and reviewing maintenance procedures and processes to ensure compliance with life cycle requirements. Maintains operations by enforcing project and operational policies and procedures. Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed actions. Maintains project database by writing computer programs, entering data, and completing backups. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Performs specific duties and responsibilities related to Mechanical engineering. Material & Equipment Directly Used: Personal computer, MS Office, and other general office equipment. Working Environment: Work is generally conducted in an office environment and could include work at project locations. Duties, however, may involve work outdoors with potential exposure to all seasons and climatic conditions. Physical Activities: Should be able to lift 50 pounds. Work may require stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential exists for exposure to physical dangers and chemical or hazardous agents. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Qualifications Education / Certifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a program certified by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Shall have and maintain professional registration as an engineer under the requirements for Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors. U.S. citizenship is required. Active Secret Clearance. Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in facility and infrastructure design.
