The Painter is responsible for all aspects of signage production at Universal Studios Hollywood and throughout the theme park. Experience in the following areas is preferred: all aspects of the physical production of signs, sign assembly including preparation of substrates using tools to cut to size. The technician in this position must have the ability to proofread signs, be capable of logo manipulations, design sign layout, and maintain signage related work orders in the park to ensure show quality standards. Responsibilities: Create, produce, and install signage for work orders and events while ensuring park standards are maintained Advises clients and team members on cost-effective and feasible project execution Logo manipulations, scanning, design signs, and sign layout in Vector based software for digital output Proofread and inspect jobs for accuracy and content Measures specific dimensions for sign placement and/or design size - either during the creation of designs or on site of where the installation will occur Help maintain an inventory of supplies and/or materials for the production of signage Works with outside vendors responsible for providing equipment and/or supplies and tracks cost related to work Accurately estimate jobs to clients while advising them on best options Desired Characteristics Experience using C&C Machine preferred Experience in wrapping graphics and vehicle wraps and in direct substrate printing preferred Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school 3-5 years technical and trade experience Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to act with urgency to solve the problem Ability to multitask and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a high volume request environment Excellent time management skills, ability to prioritize, highly organized Cleans and or prepares surfaces or materials that will receive signs using chemicals and other methods Uses ladders and/or lifts to apply signage from existing structures and/or objects Excellent communication skills (oral and written) Proficient at Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Versa works, and Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Outlook Work in Excel to track the progress of jobs, cost, timing, the material used and status of open jobs General mathematics skills such as the reading of measuring devices, decimal conversion of inches, cost figuring, figuring square feet or area Strong knowledgeable of sign making materials such as laminates, substrates, vinyl Proficient at color matching Excellent customer service to discuss design layouts with attention to detail and accuracy Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older Ability to mix and match paints and varnishes Ability to apply finishes to a wide variety of surfaces Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used within the field Advanced knowledge of commercial/industrial & show quality practices and processes of the painting trade, paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, paint removers, and related materials, and of their properties and application Knowledge of applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; occupational hazards of the painting trade and precautionary measures to be taken during application Ability & willingness to work a variety of schedules, overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall-protection, and other non-traditional work-environments. Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written on a technical level Must have the ability to motivate employees and work independently and as part of a team.
