Job Overview
Position at Orthopaedic Associates of West Florida, Clearwater
The primary responsibility of an Orthopaedic Technician is to apply and remove casts and splints and is also responsible for making sure all casting supplies and wound dressings are available for the physician. When an ortho tech is not applying a cast or brace, they will also be responsible for helping the Medical Assistant with suture removal, wound care, placing patients in rooms and any other duty to make the clinic flow more smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
Applies and removes traction devices, braces, casts, stockings, immobilizers, cervical collars, splints and dressings
Remains in assigned zone or area at all times to be of assistance to physicians, fellow employees and patients when needed
Provides patient with information on the use and care of devices
Removes all pins, halos and sutures using the proper sterilization precautions
Dictates on all cast clinic patients
Answers patient calls regarding problems with devices
Assists physician with in-office surgical procedures
Debrides calluses as indicated by physician
Assist medical assistants with removal of staples, sutures, and pins
Apply or remove dressings
Applies DME as requested
Ensures the bio-hazardous waste box in each site has 3 labels on it (Box, Bag, and Lid)
Completes weekly cast room stat sheet
Orders, organizes and maintains par level of medical supplies
Assure compliance with all company plans, policies and procedures set forth by the Florida Orthopaedic Institute
All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
High School Diploma
Minimum of 2 years experience in casting and DME
MA certification is preferred
Excellent Customer Service skills
