Job Overview

We're looking for an outstanding Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer with a background in the design and analysis of precision optical systems.


The ideal candidate has extensive experience performing design, STOP analysis, Tolerance budgeting for precision optical systems.


This is a hands-on role for a highly collaborative individual that combines superb technical and analytical capabilities to convert analytic trade studies to a qualified physical design, while optimizing for high volume production and meeting cross discipline requirements.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating, and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable technical approach for an optical system.
  • Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved
  • Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
  • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware


Basic Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with development, test, deployment of aerospace systems.
  • Experience with specifying/justifying margins and test sequences, and qualifying space systems.
  • Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience with mechanical analysis and FEA modeling
  • 5+ years of experience with CAD.


Preffered Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in mechanical engineering, physics or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in the design, qualification, volume production and deployment of complex opto-mechanical systems.
  • Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs
  • Experienced with Issue tracking applications (JIRA, TRAC).
  • Strong time and task management skills with consistent attention to detail.
