Job Overview

General Purpose: Vestas is the global leader in wind energy, advancing toward our goal of leadership in the offshore segment with the full acquisition of our former offshore joint venture and the introduction of the V236-15.0 MW turbine, the largest available. We are building a great team and the technical, operational, and cultural platform to deliver on our aspirations. The Offshore HSE Project Manager will be responsible for all HSE aspects and the HSE Management of Vestas' offshore wind projects in the United States, from contract signing to when projects are handed over to Service. Responsibilities: Advocate and influence a no harm safety culture Develop, implement, and maintain specific HSE plans for Vestas' offshore wind construction projects, including all activities regarding operational safety (including risks related to falling objects/ working in height, lockout/tagout, electric hazards, etc), working environment (WE), technical safety, and environmental management. Develop and implement safety and health standards, criteria, and guidelines, such as those issued by (but not limited to) Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and Local authorities, and Vestas Corporate applicable regulations. Monitor compliance level and guide actions for identified at-risk situations. Implement and maintain Health, Safety and Environmental Management Systems ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Deploy Global Vestas HSE standards, processes and tools based on best practice and customer/business needs and direct the implementation, including the development of Train the Trainer trainings and communication. Establish and maintain relationships with customers and Authority having Jurisdiction on HSE-related matters. Stakeholder management including Customer relationship as well as internal stakeholders. Ensure compliance with all requirements of offshore wind contracts related to HSE, including notification and reporting requirements. Provide technical support to HSE coordinators on construction projects and construction sites Provide HSE support to construction projects during internal, external audits and site inspections Routinely conducts/compiles HSE audits and inspections within applicable locations as requested for internal auditing assistance to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where required, and follows-up to ensure measures have been implemented. Assists with HSE review and input to process hazard assessments and change management of policy, procedures, machines, and equipment for injury prevention. Guides routine task and non-standard work-based Risk Assessments of job activities to professionally identify hazards to determine use of hierarchy for hazard controls Expert in advanced incident investigation methods such as TapRoot or similar. Assists with and coaches/heads investigative causes of serious injuries, accidents, incidents and near misses to identify preventive safety measures for incorporation into the safety program. Support in the approval process on all Internal Procedure documents pertaining to identified physical, behavioral, and legal risks and operational controls. Facilitates collection of HSE data. Reports HSE data in weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports; responds to customer and stakeholder HSE data requests. Perform other responsibilities as assigned Essential Functions: Effective written and verbal communications skills (verbal, focused listening, written, meeting management, presentation) in English Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Ability to safely climb a wind turbine and perform rescue activities Ability to safely board, deboard and travel on marine vessels and helicopters Ability to pass medical and fitness for exams Ability to complete required training and certifications including sea survival Ability to effectively participate in a cross-functional team Ability to direct and work in teams. Ability to schedule and organize tasking timetables Valid driver's license, passport and ability to travel as needed to meet business goals Ability to influence across organizational boundaries with a solid focus on working with and understanding different cultures. Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Up to 50% travel may be required in your first year to train and hands on experience with existing offshore wind projects and colleagues in Europe or Asia. After initial training, travel requirements will reduce to 10-15% and be primarily within North America. Education, Training, and Skills Required: Bachelor's or Associates Degree with a minimum of five to eight years work experience in General Industry, Industrial or Construction Environmental, Health and Safety preferred Professional certification (CSP, PMP, CHST, NEBOSH, etc.) preferred Experience in offshore HSE management or advanced experience supervising complex construction projects within a large-scale organization Experience in HSE management and implementing HSE policies Experience with cranes, lifting and rigging, control of hazardous energy, work at heights and confined space requirements HSE risk management, HSE assurance such as safety audits as well as incident management Knowledge of HSE legislation and the ability to interpret government approved codes of practices to ensure legal compliance Knowledge of Risk Assessment practices Ability to fluently speak and write in English Experience with management systems ISO 14001, ISO 45001 CCPA Notice for California Applicants About Vestas Vestas is the energy industry's global partner on sustainable energy solutions.
