Job Overview

The MPD Controls Manager is responsible for managing the sustaining engineering teams within a Product Line. The MPD Controls Manager serves as key interface between Technology Lifecycle Management, Engineering and Manufacturing functions. This person coordinates between groups to achieve product quality, reliability and cost reduction, and manage obsolescence.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Plan, schedule, design and assign work for employees on one major and one or more minor projects simultaneously.
  • Establish agreement between predicted and actual performances of products and processes. Make changes when required.
  • Write memoranda, documentation and technical reports that explain solutions, analyze and discuss results, and draw conclusions.
  • Propose existing or potential problem areas to be investigated and offer solutions.
  • Product products through the patent process.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in area of expertise to ensure a high technical quality in tools and techniques.
  • Interface with others including Product Lines, marketing and technical staff, the field and suppliers regarding the sustaining and customization of commercial products.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on products for which the group is responsible.
  • Provide input to sustaining and manufacturing engineering plans and budgets.
  • Create, implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPI) for the domains of sustaining engineering and manufacturing engineering. Create improvement projects.
  • Create, implement and monitor quality KPIs for products. Create improvement projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company data and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Human Resources policies related to recruiting, training, compensation, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, discipline and terminations.
  • Recommend and implement means to better achieve goals and to improve employee utilization, morale and development.
  • Sustain and write PLC software for Managed Pressure Drilling controls systems.
  • Sustain and create electrical schematics for MPD systems.
  • Support users with operational issues.
  • Work with other engineering domains and end users to solve problems related to MPD equipment.
  • Perform and document simulations for validating new and updated features.
  • Interface with the user and other stakeholders to determine their evolving needs.
  • Document user procedures for the MPD systems.
  • Integrate systems and software, considering qualities such as security, safety, performance and reliability.
  • Perform technical risk management on the system level.
  • Coordinate design and integrity between system elements. Recognize when interface impacts might occur and take early action to avoid problems.
  • Generate acceptance test requirements together with the designers, test engineers and the user, to determine that all of the high-level requirements have been met.
  • Document and validate automated processes with domain experts.
  • Share expertise throughout the organization and provide user training for products.
  • Author technical reports, papers, articles, patents and presentations.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship
