Requisition 31132: Mechanical Laborer - Kansas City, MO Job Description Scope: Laborers (Firemen & Oilers) are responsible for conducting routine maintenance and service on facilities and locomotives. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk long distances and sit for extended periods of time; reach for tools and objects with hands and arms; climb in the back of vehicles; stoop, kneel, or crouch; in all types of weather conditions. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Washing locomotives Cleaning cabs of locomotives, including restroom facilities Fueling locomotives Check oil level of locomotives Sanding locomotives Operate forklifts and other equipment Clean and maintain related railroad facilities. Do other tasks as needed to ensure the proper and safe functioning of the locomotive. Technical Skills/Abilities: Understand oral and written communication Problem solving and troubleshooting skills Time Management Soft computer skills Mechanical aptitude Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED 18 years of age or older Valid Driver's License F&O rate progression: 1st year: 75% of full rate 2nd year: 80% of full rate 3rd year: 100 % of full rate ($ 27.33) Work Conditions Working hours to include shift work, nights, weekends and holidays.
