Job Overview

Progressive Design, Inc. is currently seeking an entrepreneurial spirited Mechanical Engineer/Project Manager. This is a full time/direct hire position located in Midlothian, Virginia- (Richmond, VA area). Mechanical Engineers are responsible for performing engineering duties on assigned projects including equipment specifications, process piping, material handling and conveying, HVAC, and other mechanically related engineering and design.

General Responsibilities:
Direct customer interface and coordination
Develop study reports, bids, proposals, scopes of work, P&IDs, estimates, schedules, material lists, design concepts, scope change documents, correspondence, and other project documentation per customer and corporate guidelines
Manage scope, schedule, and budget
Manage the engineering and design process from inception to completion. This includes: leading projects, work planning, directing and overseeing designers and engineers assigned to your projects, design reviews (both internal and with client), and checking deliverables (calculations, drawings, technical reports)
Exercise innovative cost efficiency approaches in the project design to reduce construction costs and increase productivity
Size and specify typical process equipment such as pumps, tanks, chemical reactors, heat exchangers, chillers, condensers, mixers, etc.
Perform calculations to size and specify process, service and utility piping systems
Perform calculations to size and specify safety relief devices
Review equipment submittals for accuracy and validate against specifications
Maintain familiarity with various industrial codes such as ASME and API
Visit customer sites for field work
Assist in commissioning and start up
Report to Process/Mechanical Department Manager

Requirements:
BS in Mechanical Engineering
5+ years of heavy industrial experience in a design or project engineering role.
Must have experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or bio-processing industries
Project management experience
Experience working in a multidiscipline engineering consulting firm
Process safety experience (PHAs, HAZOPs, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, Inherently Safer Design, Documentation to support process safety, etc.)
Current working knowledge of safety relief device code requirements, calculations, sizing and system design procedures
Current working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles with an emphasis on fluid mechanics, mass and heat transfer, and thermodynamics
Working knowledge of incorporating safety, maintainability, constructability, and operational requirements into the design process
Must be technically sound, and be willing to mentor junior engineers
Strong communication and organizational skills
Strong ethics and corporate loyalty
Must be results oriented
Must be a team player
Must possess uncompromised commitment to quality
Must be US citizen
