Job Overview
Title: Mechanical Engineering Manager

Salary: $90k-$140k DOE

Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager directs the mechanical engineering department in the Houston facility. This facility manufactures Engineered-to-Order cranes and other material handling devices that ship throughout the world. This individual's primary purpose is solve problems for internal (manufacturing, purchasing, quality) and external customers to ensure we ship a quality product on time.
Job Duties:
- Supervisor for multiple mechanical engineers/designers/technicians for designing cranes, material handling equipment and other devices in a structured 3-D environment where sharing models between engineers is the norm.
- Lead complex projects with multiple disciplines. Coordinate releasing drawings and designs for purchasing/manufacturing. Interface with Project Managers and customers to resolve questions and issue accurate deliverables on time and on budget.
- Responsible for formalizing work plans and directing their implementation. Assigns work to his team to meet overall project deadlines while dealing with emerging issues.
- Must be detailed oriented and be able to precisely follow customer specifications and industry codes including OSHA and industry crane standards.
- Properly annotate drawings with AWS D1.1/D14.1 weld symbols, ANSI machining symbols and other standardized signs to clearly illustrate design to the customer and manufacturing facilities.
- Recruit, select, and provide proper orientation for new employees; communicating job expectations; plan, monitor, appraise, and review employee performance. Enforce policies and procedures.
- Develop Bills of Materials (BOM) to itemize all the components of the mechanical design.
- Provide phone support and technical assistance when asked by our installation crew or customers.
- Evaluate the training needs of the Mechanical Engineering team and plan for continued improvement, considering turnover, retirements, and rotation requirements.
- Design and optimization of bridge girders, trolleys, and other crane components by working in an interactive Team environment to reduce costs and improve delivery schedules.
Qualifications:
- Must be self-motivated, display leadership abilities, have knowledge of ASME, AISC and CMAA.
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering.
- Must have a minimum of ten years of related experience.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word.
- It is a requirement the applicant be proficient in a 3-D format.
- Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally.
- Must be able to manage people and motivate them to maximize their productivity.
