The Mechanical Design Engineer is a core member of the TAXA Design team acting as the bridge from product ideation to production, designing with manufacturing in mind while pushing the envelope of what is possible for the best product performance and user experience.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple projects from ideation to production
- Ability to translate ID concepts (sketch or preliminary CAD) to manufacturable SolidWorks models.
- Translate marketing requirements to technical performance requirements
- Establish product architecture including part breakout and material selection
- Create proof of principle prototypes
- Own all aspects of 3D and 2D CAD
- Utilize CAE analysis tools to raise confidence in design
- Establish product manufacturing specifications and critical quality metrics
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Design team and vendors to balance intent with manufacturability and performance
- Create and lead design validation testing based on DFMEA
- Drive IP clearance and filings
- Technical documentation of key project decisions and design changes
- Regular reporting to cross-functional and leadership teams on key project indicators - schedule, budget, and quality
- Exercise independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Provide mentorship to other technical staff
- Maintain high level knowledge of industry, technology, product or process
- Provide engineering direction for given project assignments
- Drive the design and launch from an engineering perspective of TAXA's most complex products
- Represent TAXA as subject matter expert in specific engineering topics
- Provide subject matter expertise related to technical issues for topics including Safety, Legal Issues and IP
Qualifications And Attributes
- At least 4 years of Design Engineering experience with a B.S. or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Motor Vehicle Engineering, or equivalent work experience
- SolidWorks expert level experience
- Experience with plastics manufacturing (injection molding a must)
- Experience with steel/aluminum manufacturing
- Experience with the Press Break process with regards to steel and aluminum components/ bending/ punch dies and the mechanics of joining/ assembling such materials
- Experience with multi-component assemblies
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Experience in DFMEA, validation and test plan creation
- End-to-End product development experience
- Experience and knowledge of metal component fabrication preferred
- FEA analysis experience
- Experience working directly with Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain and Industrial Design teams
