Job Overview

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking Mechanical Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Mining & Minerals team in Oakville, Ontario who will be trained and apply knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices to the organization's products and services. The EIT Mechanical will plan, schedule and conduct technical engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the EIT mechanical engineer on a project; planning, managing and coordinating the mechanical engineering activities on large and/or technical portion of a project and/or serve in an individual contributor role as the mechanical engineer completing broadly defined engineering assignments
  • Develop, plan, evaluate and recommend solutions for problems under the supervision of senior engineer
  • Prepares proposals, design drawings and calculations, contract information (CI) sheets, Data sheets, specifications and other Basis of Engineering and Design Data (BEDD) documentation using standards and/or new methods as required
  • Review drawings, calculations, CI/BEDD sheets, specifications and other engineering documentation for compliance with contract requirements, good engineering practices, codes, and standards
  • Prepares technical specifications for purchased equipment
  • Coordinate and interface with equipment suppliers
  • Prepare technical evaluations of supplier's proposals
  • Work with and communicate with project management team
  • Assure the technical quality of work performed by organizational standards, codes and general knowledge of engineering principles and projects
  • Perform or review engineering and design tasks requiring operation of available computer assisted software and/or equipment that increments work productivity and accuracy
  • Consult with supervisor and other experts concerning unusual problems and develop and apply advanced techniques and methods as required
  • Assure that all work on assigned projects is timely, accurate and high quality
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management
  • Organize, plans, and coordinate own work.
  • Set expectations and monitor delegated activities for schedule and budget


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 0-3 years' of related engineering experience.
  • Registration as an EIT in Ontario will be considered an asset
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers and vendors
  • Ability to work with administrative supervision and effectively manage multiple and conflicting priorities
  • Knowledge and ability to work with 2D and 3D software
  • Candidate must live within reasonable commuting distance from Oakville, ON office as relocation will not be provided
