Position Title: Boilermaker

POSITION OVERVIEW

To use blueprints and sketches to layout, fabricate, construct or repair, containers, pressure vessels, piping, ductwork, steel structures and plant equipment, by cutting, welding, riveting, and assembling ferrous and nonferrous plate, heavy sheet metal and structural shapes, in both field and shop areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• MiG, TiG, GSMA, SMAW, FCAW, oxygen-acetylene cutting systems and plasma torch systems.
• Ability to read prints, layout and fabricate, work from verbal communications
• Able to operate metal fabrication equipment (shears, rolls, brakes, punch, saw, etc.)
• Able to pass Company welding test
• Ability and willing to work rotating shifts and rotating days off, if required
• Able to plan work to be performed by interpreting engineering drawings, sketches, work orders and verbal instructions.
• Able to make materials, supplies, and tools list for the assigned work.
• Able to carry material and equipment to be used on the job.
• Ability to make simple and complex layouts for cutting, welding, shearing, punching, and drilling per blueprints or specifications.
• Able to cut, forms, shapes, assembles, fabricates, weld, dismantles and installs using hand and power tools, welding, cutting, and burning equipment as required in performing duties.
• Ability to rig material and equipment for lifting as required.
• Properly communicate the status of his assigned job with the relieving shift mechanics and shop supervisors.
• Ability to operate mine equipment such as overhead cranes, boom trucks, forklifts, man-baskets, etc.
• Must understand Asarco environmental policies; understand and practice all safety procedures for work environment and demonstrate effective communication skills.
• Follow Standard operating Procedures (SOP) and work area instructions and participate in safety and environmental activities.
• Must provide tools of the trade

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Applicant must have good communications skills (oral and written).
• Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in English.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to read and use schematics/blueprints.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Must be capable to lift minimum of 50 lbs.
• Availability to work any shift, including weekends and holidays. (Shifts may be rotating; operations are (24/7/365).
• Ability to work in adverse climate/temperature environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Must have high school diploma or GED.
• Valid Arizona Driver's license
• Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or minimum eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or state approved apprenticeship.
• Welding certifications required
