Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opening for a Materials Management Lead - Home Office in our Houston, TX office.

Material Management is a continuous function to be performed concurrently with engineering, procurement, construction, and other project plans. Materials Management is one of the most meaningful planning project functions. It guides all subsequent activities and has a positive impact on project execution plans. The planning activity mitigates against late deliveries, surplus, and additional craft hours.
Material Management Lead Job Description:
Plan and implement the material control, procurement, expediting, and warehousing activities associated with commodities and engineered equipment, systems, and materials in support of project operations.
Provide leadership in the use and implementation of advanced planning tools to model, simulate, and release optimized material plans to the organization in developing, planning, and implementing the master schedule.
Work with Engineering, Procurement, Expediting, Logistics, Quality around Source Inspection, Project Controls and Construction Management teams to establish project-specific materials management and planning workflows and processes, including development of the Materials Management section of Project Execution Plan.
Collaborate with Material Engineering and Material Control to maintain equipment, instruments, and commodity requirements in accordance with Engineering specifications and scopes.
Work with Project Management in developing and analyzing project schedules and coordinating activities of assigned Material Management specialists.
Perform accurate, timely, and cost-effective identification and records of material status, including requisitioning, purchasing, receiving, preservation, and issuing of materials and equipment measuring to support EPC efforts and work face planning.
Provide system set-up with engineering in accordance with AP construction sequences identified in the work break down structures.
Lead the site material module in SmartPlant Material software according to the project construction schedule, priorities, destinations, and work packages.
Perform material allocation in accordance with the construction priorities and run planning reports.
Advise Project Management of developments that may substantially affect project costs or schedules and work with project teams and suppliers to find solutions to mitigate the impacts.
Support Project and Construction Management in the identification and assessment of all identified risks with respect to supply of equipment and materials to projects.
Work with AP Procurement on the receiving PO creation for different disciplines.
Monitor and support shop fabricators' material warehousing and receiving activities.
Support Expediting ad Logistics in evaluation, selection and routing material shipments between project destinations in accordance with project requirements, shipment directions, work processes and procedures.
Evaluate innovation ideas as a mean for continuous improvement process in Material Management and Control activities while considering project costs and risks.
Make recommendations to improve, raise awareness when process concerns exist; be knowledgeable of, and understand the current schedule on all equipment and materials; address any problems/concerns.
Analyze material allocation forecasts, and provide recommendations to projects for necessary corrective action (e.g., early identification of materials' delays, potential surplus, efficient expediting, identify impacts of delays in material delivery and provide construction alternatives, etc.)
Prepare and issue planning, expediting, and engineering reports for management meetings, participate in department meeting to coordinate engineering, procurement, and expediting activities.
Assist in handling of complex material control, procurement, expediting or warehousing functions and plans.
Validate project material management strategy in accordance with AP Standards and Practices.
Use SmartPlant site material management software to update milestones according to supplier's delivery schedule as per AP Construction priorities.
Responsible for the entire material life cycle oversight from design through constriction completion in accordance with AP Standards and Practices.
Available to travel to warehouses, Fabricator facilities, module fab yards, and work site locations in North and South America.
Support project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner to accomplish common goals and objectives.
Serve as point of contact for external and internal customers.
Support Project Management in the development of Labor and Staffing Plans and Procedures.
Able to balance multiple responsibilities and expectations and meet deadlines.
Provide direct and general supervision and training to material management specialists.
Lead development and implementation of coordinated detailed solutions to drive continued innovation, efficiency, and safety for material planning.
Adhere to and support AP Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability Polices.
Support corporate initiatives promoting safety, diversity, ethical behavior, increased employee engagement and career development.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, or related field is preferred and/or minimum 10 (ten) years' experience in Material Management and Systems.
Direct experience at the Project site working in a material/equipment coordination role.
International capital project experience and ability to lead a regionally dispersed team is a plus
Technical knowledge of construction and piping/structural steel manufacturing and fabrication processes, ability to read Engineering drawings and material take offs.
Ability to lead multiple high priority projects and contending priorities, adjust to varying demands of work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, project management skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and financial foresight.
Excellent digital literacy, particularly experience with relevant SAP and MRP system modules.
Must be a great teammate with emotional intelligence.
