Job Overview
Actalent is seeking regional applicants for a mid-level Manufacturing Engineer role with a large client in the Portland area. This is a 1-year approved contract, but has strong potential to be extended up to 2 years total, and be in a position for a direct role with our client down the road.
Summary:
This Manufacturing Process Engineer will assist a team of other engineers, PM's and managers in setting up an assembly plant for conversion to electric vehicle builds - this will include manufacturing analysis, process design and implementation, tools and equipment design and installation, training factory workers, and other related duties.
Job Responsibilities:
- The main function of a manufacturing engineer is to apply engineering theory and principles to problems of industrial layout or manufacturing production.
- Facilitate workshop/meetings working in cross functional environments. Coordinate, prepare and facilitate Production Oriented Design workshops (also known as Design for Manufacturability).
- Gather process and equipment information from manufacturing plants.
- Prepare equipment specifications and work with vendors to obtain budgetary quotes.
- Study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rate and improve efficiency.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confer with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
- Read worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets, to verify that records adhere to quality assurance specifications.
- Aid in planning work assignments in accordance with worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays.
- Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
- Observe worker using equipment to verify that equipment is being operated and maintained according to quality assurance standards.
- Observe workers operating equipment or performing tasks to determine time involved and fatigue rate using timing devices.
- Evaluate data and write reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required
- Ideally 5+ years of manufacturing or process engineering experience, but can consider down to 1-2+ years as appropriate
- Experience should be related to manufacturing processes, equipment specifications and installations for an assembly/production facility, and layer in some project management responsibilities
