Northrop Grumman is seeking a Functional Manager (Manager 2, Systems Engineering) to join our Systems Engineering team at our Northrop Grumman Woodland Hills, CA site. The successful candidate will manage a highly skilled engineering team that is dedicated to proposing, developing, integrating, and deploying leading-edge mission systems solutions for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. The successful candidate will join Northrop Grumman's Mission Systems SoCal Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (SoCal SEIT) team supporting the Integrated Digital Systems (IDS) business area. Our Systems Engineering team is responsible for: Developing and maintaining the systems architecture, requirements, verification, validation, and qualification testing USMC/NAVAIR and US Army customer communications & support Working with pilots to facilitate cockpit and operational improvements Developing system descriptive and performance models and simulations Conducting trade studies and problem analysis to create new or upgraded mission execution capabilities, functionality and technologies for the USMC and Army helicopter fleets Applying mathematical, electrical, mechanical, software engineering and program planning skills and make use of tools such as MatLab Simulink, SCADE, Cameo, JIRA, and methodologies such as Agile, DevSecOps. The successful candidate shall have the ability to lead the execution of engineering programs, drive cross-functional partnerships, and cultivate the talent bench. This position is 20% functional management and 80% direct program support. Roles and Responsibilities: Assist in the development and implementation of SEIT vision and strategies to drive employee engagement; conduct hiring, training, and development of top talent; balance process compliance against innovation; and reduce bureaucracy Staff resource planning Conduct performance and salary reviews Mentor, challenge, and identify opportunities for team members to develop skills needed to pursue tailored career/development paths Cultivate and foster an environment of commitment to excellence Drive continuous process improvement and usage of common processes across programs, as appropriate Provide management guidance to achieve outstanding cost, schedule and technical performance Responsible for technical guidance and oversight in developing technical and cost proposals Manage personnel assignments and lab resources in a highly dynamic and fast-paced engineering environment NGFeaturedJobs Basic Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below: 9 years of Engineering experience with a Bachelors of Science in a STEM discipline; 7 years of System Engineering experience with Masters; 4 Years with a PhD Proven ability in effectively communicating with all levels of management and employees both verbally and in writing. A proven track record of leading a team of engineering, establishing strong cross-functional relationships, and managing stakeholder expectations (internal and external). Experience developing requirements, designing hardware or software, developing test strategies, and/or conducting integration or qualification testing of hardware or software products, systems, subsystems for military or commercial applications. Experienced in metrics-based cost estimating and the use of prior actual costs to support Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for engineering estimates Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance within a timeframe set forth by management; US Citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration: Master's degree in an Engineering discipline Demonstrated passion for mentoring and developing people, personally and professionally Experience with on-vehicle integration, validation, qualification and airworthiness criteria and activities Experience with DOORS, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, SysML specification and related toolsets such as Cameo, PTC, SCADE, MatLab Simulink/XPC, Model center. Military or work experience, or a keen interest to work with military airborne electronics or helicopter strategies and usage, capabilities, human factors, technologies, and airworthiness criteria. Experience with software development and integration, including DevSecOps Experience in Earned Value program practices Experience working in Waterfall and Agile environments Active Secret Clearance Salary Range: $143,500.00 - $215,300.00 Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
