JOB GOAL
The job of General Maintenance Worker was established for the purpose/s of providing maintenance
services as needed and/or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing
immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials
and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at job site when needed.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
o High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and
o One year of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and
repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Performs minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment. (Major repairs are performed
under the supervision of licensed maintenance workers.)
o Performs preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a scheduled
basis; inspects belts, checks fluid levels, replaces filters, greases bearings, seals, etc.; repairs or
replaces broken parts.
o Cleans and inspects boiler; treats water with proper chemicals.
o Calibrates and repairs pneumatic systems.
o Replaces broken windows; repairs doors, door locks and closets; installs window blinds.
o Completes daily, weekly and monthly checklists on building equipment maintenance procedures
and maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
o May operate a computer which controls and monitors mechanical equipment and utility systems.
o Installs electrical wiring and equipment; new electrical services, wiring during remodeling projects;
replaces and repairs wiring as needed.
o Repairs electrical equipment and control circuits; replaces faulty electrical switches; repairs
refrigeration equipment.
o May repair electrical locks and control panels to maintain building security.
o May install computer cable.
o Responds to emergency maintenance requests as required.
o Assists with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repairs plaster and drywall; paints building
structures.
o Maintains records of scheduled maintenance procedures.
o Performs outside custodial duties such as snow removal as required.
o May obtain estimates for supplies, repair parts; orders parts as needed.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
o Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management,
both internal and external to the district.
