As an L&I Auditor 3 (In-Training), you will directly support the mission of L&I as it pertains to safeguarding the safety and health of the workforce by ensuring that employers carry industrial insurance and pay the correct amount of industrial insurance premium as it relates to the assigned risk classification(s) for their business. This position ascertains whether or not firms are in compliance with industrial insurance reporting requirements. Some of what you will do: Performs compliance audits, educational audits for new and existing employers and investigations to verify employers are complying with the Revised Code of Washington (RCWs) Title 51 and Washington Administrative Code (WACs). Conduct thorough pre-audit research. Conduct audits of business financial records to determine premium liability for industrial insurance. Review employment contracts and conduct fact-finding interviews. Perform out-of-state audit assignments to determine if industrial insurance premiums are due in Washington. Determine if employer is in compliance with industrial insurance laws using a variety of computer software programs. Educate employers by answering questions and providing information related to audit processes, laws and rules. May perform on-site audits at employer's facility and surveys the work operations to determine if the firm has the correct risk classification. Prepares subpoenas and other legal documents as needed. Prepare professional and extensive report of audit findings. May testify before the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and/or other courts to defend and support audit findings. And much more! Required: If hired at the 1 level: A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) OR An Associate's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class) and two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. If hired at the 2 level: A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class) and one (1) year of professional accounting or auditing experience. OR An Associate's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) and three (3) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. If hired at the 3 level: A Bachelor's degree that includes at least 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class) and two (2) years of professional accounting or auditing experience. Additional professional level accounting or auditing experience will substitute; year for year, for the education except for the 20 semester or 30 quarter hours in accounting (may include credits from one (1) Finance class or one (1) Business Law class). As well as Demonstration of Position-specific skills and abilities. Preferred Qualifications: A Master's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics or closely allied field, or certification as a Public Accountant, Fraud Examiner, Internal Auditor, Information System Auditor, Management Accountant or equivalent certification will substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Strong knowledge of RCW Title 51, WAC 296-17, and WAC 296-17A.
