Job Overview

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an Lead Instrument Designer in our Houston, TX Office.

Authorization to work permanently in the U.S. without sponsorship required.

Functions in a primary design role, providing drawing and deliverable development while assisting the engineering lead to accomplish overall project objectives. Performs tasks with competency and extensive knowledge of standard techniques, procedures and design criteria. Support the discipline engineering lead in maintaining Budget, Schedule and adherence to the project scope of work.

Coordinates and facilitates with Senior Design Coordinator for staff assignment, change management and discipline technical support.

Attend project and client meetings, Assign specific design task to discipline design team, monitor production levels, perform checking / technical audits, and support project reporting requirements.

Create CADD designs/drawings from Engineering and Design sketches, mark-ups, go-bys and verbal instruction. Coordinate with other discipline designers to ensure verbally received information is communicated and clearly understood.

Review and apply project standards and documents to assure they are compatible and aligned with the overall project objectives. Bring discrepancies to the attention of the Design Coordinator for resolution.

Work closely with peer and subordinate project design staff as well as engineering staff to assure the integrity of project deliverables and documents are maintained, accurate, and consistent

Participate in all available technical training while continuously improving technical skill sets.

Skills / Qualifications

Successful candidate to possess:

Provide guidance and support to Instrument Designers

Working knowledge of applicable codes and regulations

Proficient with appropriate department software tools Autocad, SPI & various 3D modeling applications

Complete understanding of proper drawing organization and production

Complete knowledge of department design and drafting standards and procedures

Strong ethical standards. High level of awareness and commitment to safety in all aspects of daily work. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Highly motivated and demonstrates personal initiative. Possesses integrity, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and is dependable. Accountable for results. Adaptable and flexible to the changing needs of projects. Team player that works well with supervisors, subordinates, peers and clients

2 year Associates degree - Instrumentation Control Systems or equal training / experience

15+ years industry experience

Ability to work well with others in a team environment. Good communication skills both orally and written. Enthusiasm to learn
