Job/Position Description:
The E&I Engineering Lead is a senior appointment to provide technical support for capital projects to ensure safety, operational and technical integrity in all process aspects of the chemical process used to make lithium products from the engineering phase through to plant construction and commissioning. The Lead will manage internal and external Stakeholders to fulfil the role.
The E&I Engineering lead will work alongside peers within a diverse Engineering team and will report to the Engineering Manager.
This role is critical to the success of the project as the position holder is responsible for guiding the engineering contractors and procurement choices in conjunction with the EPCI (Engineering and Procurement Construction Contractor) and is a key member within the overall project delivery team.
The role location will be in Houston, TX but will be expected to support project execution as needed at various locations in the US.

Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical engineering and design efforts for capital projects, including (but not limited to) development or revisions to electrical area classification drawings, single line diagrams, substation and motor control center design, specifications and purchase of electrical equipment, creation of wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and design of lighting and grounding systems.
- Supervise the E&I design activities conducted by the engineering contractor.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and best practices for process plant design. Revise client standards as needed to meet project goals.
- Support the project as E&I Lead during all phases of a capital project - scope development, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
- Ensures the accuracy of design information whether done by client personnel or by outside contractors prior to being issued for construction.
- Review technical feasibility of proposed solutions to engineering problems.
- Cooperation and coordinating the activities with other engineering disciplines (process, civil, mechanical, and controls) to provide solutions to project risks and concerns as they arise.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions that improve the safety, efficiency, quality, operability, maintainability, and speed of the design process.
- Oversee development of the design basis, material equipment lists, drawing modifications, and estimated cost for installation of the electrical portion of the conceptual and front-end engineering designs for capital projects that will be used to obtain funding and project approval.
- Provides assistance in overseeing construction, commissioning and start-up efforts as it pertains to electrical design and assists with any troubleshooting or problems solving required to meet installation deadlines
- Maintains constant vigilance for personal and surrounding worker safety, communicates unsafe conditions immediately, and provides direction as needed to ensure construction and design are performed in a safe and injury free manner during performance of daily tasks.
- Develops project tools and engineering guidelines as required that will be used to standardize engineering design parameters and processes
- Travels to project site as needed to support project scope development, construction, testing, and start up. Short to extended stays may be needed depending upon complexity of the installation.
- Zero injuries and incidents on assigned projects.
- Design packages comply with applicable codes, standards, and best practices for process plant design.
- Design activities are completed in accordance with the project schedule and budget.
- Continuous improvement in procedures, tools, standards, and team performance.
- Accurate and timely reporting to Engineering Manager

- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution of higher learning
- 12+ years of Mechanical Engineering in chemical or petrochemical processing plants
- Significant demonstrated experience performing process design on projects with TIC budgets more than $100 million USD.
- Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
- Proven examples of developing innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and other computer-based design software.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical distribution systems 13.8 kV and below.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety requirements), and OSHA requirement compliance.
- Working knowledge of electrical modeling software as it relates to incident energy, short circuit ratings, and protective device coordination (experience with ETAP is plus).
- Experience with 50 Hz systems and IEC is a plus.
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment acceptance testing as it relates to NETA standards.
- Demonstrated ability working with electrical heat tracing installations, sizing motors, developing fuse and / or circuit breaker trip settings, sizing power cables, sizing transformers, and sizing cable tray.
