POSITION : PART-TIME CAMPUS POLICE OFFICER

REPORTS TO : Chief of Police

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a full-range of assigned law enforcement duties to maintain securityand order on the assigned campuses of Lanier Technical College, including AdultEducation facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Responds to callsfor service;
  • Responds tomedical emergencies as a First Responder;
  • Guards andmonitors buildings. Answers alarms andinvestigates disturbances. Investigates criminal complaints, vehicle, and otheraccidents;
  • Coordinates withState Patrol and adjacent law enforcement jurisdictions. Apprehends criminal suspects and turns overto local jurisdiction for booking or incarceration;
  • Inspects assignedarea for fire or environmental hazards as part of normal security patrol;
  • Monitors andauthorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons toguard against and maintain security of premises;
  • Patrols premisesto prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows,and gates;
  • Responds tofires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events as a First Responder;
  • Warns persons ofrule infractions or violations, and apprehends or evicts violators frompremises, using force if necessary;
  • Writes reports ofdaily activities and irregularities;
  • In conjunctionwith other federal, state, and local agencies, will coordinate disasterresponse or crisis management activities, such as opening shelters, specialneeds programs, and evacuation;
  • As part of normalsecurity patrol, inspects equipment and facilities to determine theiroperational and functional capabilities;
  • Collaborates withothers to prepare and analyze damage assessments following emergencies;
  • Escorts or drivesmotor vehicle to transport individuals to specified locations and to providepersonal protection;
  • Directs trafficand provides security for events;
  • Maintains PeaceOfficer Standards Training certification;
  • TransportsCollege funds and deposits;
  • Locks and unlocksfacilities;
  • Assist studentswith vehicle jump starts and lockouts;
  • Enforces parkingrules and regulation, and issues parking citations;
  • Conductsinvestigations and follows up on campus-related activities.
  • Otherwork-related duties as assigned by Supervisor
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma or GEDAND current P.O.S.T. certification is required. Valid Georgia driver s license.

    COMPETENCIES:

  • Skill in theoperation of computers and job related software programs;
  • Skill in interpersonalrelations and in dealing with the public;
  • Ability to workindependently with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to workat any LTC campus;
  • Ability to workweekends, day, evening and morning shifts;
  • Ability to differentiatebetween colors;
  • Ability tocomplete reports according to established guidelines;
  • Ability to patrolassigned areas;
  • Ability toidentify signs of unlawful entry;
  • Ability to obtainannual mandatory 20 hours of training for P.O.S.T. certification;
  • Ability to passannual firearms and use of deadly force training;
  • Knowledge of allpertinent federal, state, and local laws, ordinances and regulations ofCollege/TCSG policies and procedures, and CLERY Act requirements;
