Overview / Responsibilities

Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Estimator, in our Vancouver BC office. Reporting to the Manager of Estimating, or on a project basis reporting to a Senior Estimator. This position is suited for a project controls professional who has decided on a career path in estimating.

Responsibilities:

Under direct supervision, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in general estimate preparation
  • Researching and reviewing documents for historical data relevant to the estimate
  • Providing accurate and project-appropriate data in a timely and professional manner
  • Beginning to develop an understanding of estimating fundamentals for a broad range of engineering disciplines at an appropriate level of detail

Estimating Duties:

Some of the estimating duties are:

  • Assisting in the interpretation of routine documentation, specifications, and drawings to determine material costs
  • Obtaining pricing for bulk materials
  • Entering material and equipment items and quantities into the estimating system
  • Participating in internal Estimating Department estimate reviews
  • Assisting in the preparation of cost studies to support the selection of economical designs
  • Assisting the Senior Estimator with cost research and maintenance of the estimating database
  • Assisting in the preparation of estimates for trends, contract scope changes, or extra work orders
  • Developing estimate reconciliations as required
  • Possibly leading small estimate comparisons for inclusion within the completed estimate

Skills / Qualifications

  • Status as a recent post secondary graduate with a degree/diploma/certificate in one of the traditional engineering disciplines or construction management
  • Status as a trade or technical school graduate or equivalent
  • Any relevant engineering/construction experience would be an asset
  • Any project controls experience would be asset
