Wood in Saskatoon is currently recruiting for an Instrumentation and Controls Designer - Intermediate to join our Mining & Minerals group .
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Project Instrumentation and Controls Lead, the successful applicant will be responsible to:
- Complete design and drafting for Instrumentation and Controls packages such as control system architecture and block diagrams, communication network drawings, PLC and DCS panel drawings, instrument loop diagrams, junction box wiring diagrams and fire alarm system risers and layouts.
- Create, provide input to and check lists such as instrument index, I/O lists and equipment lists.
- Select appropriate instruments for measurement and control.
- Select appropriate components for control systems, communication systems and fire detection and alarm systems, and select appropriate cables and panels to complete designs.
- Review vendor data for equipment and apply it to instrumentation and controls design.
- Provide input to piping and instrumentation drawings (P&IDs) and control narratives.
- Obtain measurements and collect data at job sites as required.
- Estimate material quantities and cable lengths.
- Interface with other departments to create a project 3D model and create reference 2D backgrounds from the model.
- Follow Project CAD procedures to prepare drawings, preform drafting checks and ensure acceptable overall layout and presentation of finished drawings.
- Work with senior engineers to develop designs and mentor junior staff.
Skills / Qualifications
- Graduate of an Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology program, or of a related Design / Drafting (CAD) program with relevant experience in Instrumentation and Controls design.
- Registered as an Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) with Technology Professionals Saskatchewan is preferred.
- Minimum 4 years experience in Instrumentation and Control System design for mining, metallurgical or similar process industries.
- Proven expertise using AutoCAD
- Experience with 3D design / drafting, preferably AutoCAD 3D and AVEVA E3D would be considered and asset .
- Everyday use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with databases, preferably AVEVA AI.
- Familiarity with ISA, IEEE and CSA standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code, and how to apply them to designs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills .
- Team player, but also able to work independently and take responsibility.
- Able to work efficiently and effectively when managing multiple tasks in a highly scheduled environment.
- Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required .
