Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced HVAC Startup & Commissioning Technician to ensure our holistic and sustainable solutions are designed and implemented to the highest quality and performance for our clients.


In this role, you will review our designs and provide a much-needed hands-on field perspective., develop documentation to ensure subcontractor installations meet manufacturer guidelines and design criteria, and perform on-site performance testing & troubleshooting to ensure our solutions work. You will work closely with the construction team and contractors in identifying and resolving deficiencies. You will assist in training facilities staff in maintaining and operating the new systems. We are looking for someone familiar with the construction process or who is willing to learn about it.


Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in HVAC building systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers)
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in commercial, institutional, and public sector
  • Experience in the automation and control systems of HVAC and lighting systems
  • Read and understand control wiring and high-voltage wiring diagrams
  • Review drawings, submittal data and installation/operation manuals to provide complete startup and commissioning per the manufacturer's recommendations
  • Perform pre-functional inspections/checklist and start-up of commercial HVAC systems
  • Use a variety of tools and techniques to ensure HVAC systems work as well as possible
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs on refrigeration systems at time of startup and warranty period
  • Document work by completing all paperwork on each job for each piece of equipment
  • Strong leadership qualities with ability and desire to train other team members
  • Good communication skills with clients, contractors, and engineering teams
  • Specialized HVAC training, either through an apprenticeship or certification program
  • Travel to project sites (less than 30% of the year)
