JOB OVERVIEW

Cares for and maintains all outdoor furniture and facilities. Maintains grounds and ground equipment and machinery. Operates various tractors, machines, and vehicles necessary to complete grounds or maintenance tasks. Serves as an assistant to other maintenance staff to more efficiently complete maintenance tasks and accomplish special projects as needed. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures . Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(INFORMATION)

1. Maintains appearance and overall conditions of all ground areas as directed.
2. Applies chemicals to control weeds and insects on grass, trees, flowers, weeds, etc., as needed.
3. Consults with commercial chemical suppliers, nurseries, and professional lawn care companies for recommended products to use for weed and insect control as necessary.
4. Schedules proper times for tree planting, transplanting and trimming following recommended procedures.
5. Plants and transplants flowers and other various plants to designated or desired areas as directed.
6. Trims flowers and plants, removes and protects flowers and plants as needed for extended health and life of plants.
7. Applies mulch around trees, shrubs, flowers, and plants as needed for appearance and weed control.
8. Operates chipper shredder, grinding up tree limbs to be used as mulch. Stack piles mulch for later use as necessary.
9. Operates tractors and equipment for snow and ice control/removal per department guidelines.
10. Waters trees, flowers, lawn, and grass areas as needed.

(THINGS)

1. Maintain and ensure a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury.
2. Locates and picks up items for maintenance and other departments for emergency repair of equipment.
3. Periodically makes trips for gasoline and other fuels used for pickup truck, tractors, and other grounds equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

1. Requires walking - standing 90-95% of the time.
2. Requires mobility - bending, twisting, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, etc., 45-50% of the time.
3. Exposed to loud noises, vibrations, dusty and dirty conditions.
4. 85% outside - 15% inside work - exposed to extreme temperature changes, with wet and/or humid conditions.
5. Medium work - lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with occasional carrying of up to 25 pounds.
6. Routinely exposed to biohazardous materials.
7. Mobility required for travel to scheduled events or meetings as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalency, two years groundskeeping experience including snow removal required. Must have valid Nebraska driver's license and proof of good driving record.
