Currently seeking a GIS Field Technician for a long term opportunity in the Norfolk, VA area. This position is with a reputable engineering firm supporting utility scale power distribution projects. Qualified candidates will have the following experience:

Job Description and Qualifications (GIS Technician):

• Bachelor of Science degree in GIS related field is required (environmental, geography, natural resources, urban planning, geology, or forestry, etc.)
• 0-2 years of GIS experience (this can include internships)
• Must be comfortable in both a field and office setting (majority of time will be spent in the field setting conducting survey and the affiliated engineering/design work)

Job Functions:

• GIS Technicians will support major distribution projects for the utility industry
• GIS Technicians will be responsible for closing out GIS work orders
• Each project will include preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and ROW acquisition, development of BOM, estimating costs, etc.
• Fielding assignments to gather data, take pictures, acquire measurements, and to assess current state of the project will be required for this role
• The utility is upgrading their distribution infrastructure and the engineering firm has the contract to provide the GIS support
