Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the General Foreman is responsible for the daily stevedoring operations. Responsibilities also include but not limited to port vessel operation, customer relations, employee management, ensuring safety policies, facility security plan and procedures are adhered to by all employees, and at the same time productivity targets are achieved allowing for on-time handling of cargo with quality and low cost. Other duties include but are not limited to:
- Communicate daily with principals/customers, Port Authority, labor companies, third-party vendors, and appropriate government authorities.
- Daily interactions with clients and continuous project management.
- Involved in day-to-day SCH standard operations.
- Manage terminal and cargo operations.
- Participate and take active role in Operating procedure, present and future.
- Participate in site visit of potential job opportunities.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment that complies with environmental guidelines and policies.
- Stay compliant with all regulatory bodies as it applies to the work that is being completed and with all safety rules and policies.
- Manage employees/labor force: Recommending, hiring, firing, and supervising employees including scheduling, approving, or disapproving timecards.
- Supervisor labor, direct and third-party labor pool.
- Monitors and enforces Safety Policies and Procedures with Operation and General Managers as well as labor pool.
- Utilize proper PPE.
- This position may involve travel to multiple locations.

- High School diploma and / or GED required.
- College Courses a plus.
- 2-4 years of experience as a Working Foreman / Supervisor in stevedoring, rail and / or maritime industry required.
- Previous management experience required.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, forklift certification a plus
- In depth knowledge and understanding of bulk cargo, break bulk, and cargo management and labor relations; including third parties considered a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, at all levels.
- Excellent communication skills - verbal, written and presentation.
- Organizational and time management skills - multi-tasking and prioritizing, planning work activities efficiently to meet deadlines and high-level goals.
- Good Influencing, Conflict Resolution and Negotiation skills.
- Works together with others in the business unit to achieve results, fosters teamwork.
- Customer / Solutions focused.
- Proven ability to deliver under pressure.
- Working knowledge of MS office products and ability to quickly adapt to software.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must have a valid driver's license with acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR).
- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) highly preferred but must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to obtain a Port Authority Card within 30 days of hire.
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including days, nights, weekends, and some holidays with travel to and from the marine vessel while in Port.
- Must be able to provide and maintain automobile insurance according to state laws.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time in the Gulf Coast area.
