Job Overview
The Field Service Technician will perform a variety of technical functions in the mechanical and electrical fields, primarily in servicing custom automation equipment. The main objectives are to: install and service equipment; maintain startups; commission, support and optimize acceptance and production runs; document changes and train Customer personnel during the handover phase on all equipment, onsite and at Customer facilities.
General Responsibilities:
- Provide production support on machines and lines at Customer sites.
- Troubleshoot errors and malfunctions on automation equipment.
- Provide training to operation and maintenance personnel.
- Support programmers during set-up, commissioning, and acceptance phases.
- Lead small projects at customer sites.
- Redline version control of technical documents (with document owner approval), including:
- Mechanical / Electrical / Pneumatic drawings; Bill of Materials (BOMs); User documentation, such as manuals and other equipment-related materials; Qualification documentation; Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Provide telephone technical support to Customers and Distributors.
- Able to possibly travel to Freiburg, Germany, for initial product training. (Certain projects might require training in Germany for three (3) months, with return home periods.)
- Able to travel to Customer sites (domestic and international) to install new equipment, provide set-up and commissioning support, and perform retrofits, upgrades, troubleshooting and production runs.
- Able to spend extended periods at Customer sites.
Mechanical Responsibilities:
- Build assemblies and subassemblies according to mechanical drawings.
- Install and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic components according to drawings.
- Perform minor mechanical modifications to parts to ensure proper fit using power drills, mills, lathes, etc.
- Place, align and mechanically set up machines at customer sites.
Electrical Responsibilities:
- Wire devices and components according to electrical drawings.
- Install or replace electrical components according to electrical drawings.
- Install field devices (I/O, safety switches, e-stops, etc.) according to electrical drawings.
- Troubleshoot electrical equipment, as needed.
Qualification / Education:
Minimum 3 years' experience in custom design per application systems, in automation, control system design, PLC and HMI programming.
Knowledgeable of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles.
Significant electrical aptitude and knowledge of acceptable practices, techniques, and codes.
VFD / Servo experience.
PLC experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
HMI experience with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley and or WinCC.
AutoCAD experience to modify electrical drawings and schematics.
Good knowledge of ISO / OSHA / cGMP requirements and current industry practices.
Good knowledge of SPC and Gage R&R methodology.
