Master Electrician - This advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Sumter Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Unit. SALARY WILL BE DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH CURRENT PAY POLICY. EMPLOYEES ARE NORMALLY HIRED WITHIN THE APPOINTMENT RANGE. Under the direction of Secretary, Mark Inch, the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is the 3rd largest state prison system in the country with a budget of 2.4 billion, approximately 97,000 inmates incarcerated and another 167,000 offenders on active community supervision. The DC has 151 facilities and more than 24,000 staff members statewide, making it the State's largest agency. Specific Duties This working position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of all types of electrical infrastructure, electrical systems, and electrical devices including but not limited to, power, lighting, control, locking control, and motors and associated systems and components utilized in the operation of the facility. Supervises and provides on the job training to those inmates he/she supervises. This incumbent in this position is responsible for: + Maintaining records related to tasks assigned. + Performs preventive maintenance and maintenance repairs for the proper function of all electrical and associated systems. + Performs all tests, maintains all logs, keeps records for related equipment per Department guidelines. + Follows approved methods and procedures of all local, state or federal codes, tool, safety and established security procedures. + Prepares reports as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent. + Plans and organizes work to be preformed and requisitions necessary parts to ensure the proper operation of all electrical systems and equipment and adheres to all Maintenance Policy and Procedures. + Prepares reports of progress and performance for assigned inmates for the use by the inmate's classifications team in measuring and determining the rehabilitative progress of the assigned inmate consistent with motivational needs and the development of a positive approach to rehabilitation efforts. Maintains custody and control of inmates as outlined in the operational procedures. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) + Must have knowledge of primary high voltage and secondary voltage electrical distribution systems and components. + Knowledge of the National Electric Code and its application to commercial/industrial electrical and high voltage systems. + Knowledge of the procedures for installing, altering and repairing all electrical conduit, power and lighting systems, single phase and three phase from electrical distribution through the brand circuits and their devices. + Skills in using trade hand tools, using various trade meters, and using electric and hydraulic power tools. + Ability to translate the National Electrical Code (NEC) to practical purposes on work sites. + Ability to work in a training capacity with people in individual and group settings. + Ability to collect, record, and evaluate data relating to the training of individuals + Ability to prepare and maintain records and other instructional materials. + Ability to work independently. + Ability to speak clearly and correctly to individuals and groups. + Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. + Ability to communicate effectively. + Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. + Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, and policies and procedures relating to vocational instruction. Required Minimum Qualifications: + A high school diploma or its equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the Electrical/Electrician field OR four or more years experience in the Electrical/ Electrician field (College or vocational/technical training in one of the above listed trades can substitute for the required experience). + A valid Driver's License is also required.
