Job Overview

Summary: The Equipment Operator is responsible for Operating heavy & light construction equipment- including backhoes, cable plow, Mini-Ex, Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) & other types of machinery & assures maintenance of these as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Traffic Control set up & tear down
Ability to drive trucks & equipment to job sites
Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position
Maintains company equipment per service requirements and safety guidelines.
Directly responsible for all personal actions and any personnel, vehicles or equipment in the care, custody, or control.
Report any personal or vehicle/equipment accidents/incidents immediately to supervisors, corporate and assist in the investigation of same

SAFETY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Adhere to, promote, and accept personal responsibility for compliance to:

o Federal and Local Occupational Safety and Health Regulations

o Industry Consensus Standards

o KGPCo Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manual

Participate in job site safety/hazard analysis

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
A class A CDL or the ability to obtain one is preferred but not required
Must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience with operating heavy equipment to include horizontal directional drilling, mini excavators, hydro-excavation equipment etc.
2 years of experience in utility construction preferred
Must be able to differentiate colors.
Must be able to read and understand manufacture's manuals for operating and repairing of equipment and components.
Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
Knowledge of reading and understanding blueprints is preferred.
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather (i.e. snow, rain, wind, etc.) and work overtime as required.
Pass a pre-employment drug screen/criminal background test
