Job Overview
Job Summary:
Responsible for maintaining solar field collector cleanliness referred to as "reflectivity". Operates standard water trucks with water spay diffusers, and Albatross brush cleaning truck with hydraulic boom arm and rotating brushes and sprayers. Incumbents work rotating shifts covering 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, including holidays and overtime as required. Work hours are generally at night, but may be changed to daytime during the winter season. This is a safety sensitive position.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates water trucks for solar field deluge cleaning, and the Albatross hydraulic brush cleaning truck to wash the surface of the mirrors.
Inspect water trucks and Albatross units, report any repairs needed. Maintain in good working condition. Equipment is to be left clean, fully fueled and with water capacities filled upon the completion of each shift.
Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair tasks on cleaning equipment as required. Note: Minor maintenance and inspection may entail adding fluids but does not include fluid changes or other repairs requiring the rolling stock Mechanic.
Equipment maintenance tasks shall include the completion of an equipment check list to confirm the condition of tires, function of lighting, inspection of pump seals and leakage, and checking fluid levels.
Operate beta test equipment and participate in reflectivity optimization initiatives involving either specialized or modified cleaning equipment or refilling and/or equipment logistics management.
Advises unit Supervisor of daily activities and irregularities in equipment and the solar field.
Maintains neat, accurate logs and records obtained from operation of equipment to prepare detailed reports related to solar field reflectivity.
While working rotating shifts, 12 hours per day, all meal periods and breaks shall be considered as paid, on-duty time. The employee will coordinate work activities with co-workers and the supervisor, as appropriate, to facilitate the applicable meal and break periods.
Assist other plant operators and maintenance personnel as required.
When field conditions do not allow access to the solar field due to weather or ground conditions other tasks may be assigned. Maintenance including site clean-up, weed removal, or other non or semi-skilled tasks involving cleaning of hydraulic oil staining on solar collector such as actuator areas or specific cleaning processes such as hard water staining, as required and appropriate.
Other equipment operations may include minor earthen road repairs; erosion damage repairs or spill clean-up should process leaks occur from either mobile or stationary equipment.
Operate other heavy and mobile equipment if qualified to operate; such as back hoes, front end loaders, road graders, vacuum equipment, trenchers, fork lifts, or other lifting devices.
Understands and operates facility to maintain all compliance requirements. Notifies Supervisor/Manager if non-compliance occurs.
Completes assigned job training requirements both online and in-person.
Understands company policies, compliance requirements on SF spills and clean ups. Notifies Lead man, Supervisor/Manager if non-compliance occurs.
Ability to work overtime when requested and as needed.
Safety sensitive position is a job or position where the employee holding this position has the responsibility for his/her own safety or other people's safety.
Performs other duties as required.

Willingness to assist in training other personnel as directed. Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office 365, and SAP. Advancement through the Tech Levels are determined by completing the requirements for the next Tech Level in accordance with company policy and the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement).
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess a valid California Class "A" driver's license. One (1) year minimum experience operating light duty and heavy equipment, including 8-10-wheel dump trucks, water trucks or vacuum trucks, utility tractors and equipment trailers. Familiarity with water pumping equipment is beneficial. Familiarity and/or experience with other mobile equipment such as forklifts, backhoes, front-end loaders, road graders and other excavating equipment is preferred. Experience with lifting equipment such as scissor lifts, man baskets or cranes is a plus.
Essential Job Functions:
The ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks. Ability to use emergency equipment in emergency situations, such as respirators and S.C.B.A. (self-contained breathing apparatus). The ability to discern assorted colors.
Working Conditions:
Works in normal power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, quiet, noisy, moving objects, exposure to sun and rain, high places, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include minor cuts, minor burns, electrical shock, falling objects, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Wearing of personal protective equipment is necessary, as is the ability to legally operate Company vehicles. Works 12-hour shifts, day or night, with on-duty meals and break periods.
