Job Overview
Position Summary The Environmental Engineer Advisor acts as the lead technical advisor and strategic architect for all environmental compliance programs and processes. Candidates must have a broad environmental background and general working knowledge of the Oil and Gas Industry that they can apply to make actionable decisions to mitigate environmental risk. Excellent written and oral communication are necessary to document programmatic standards and regulatory interpretations, mentor environmental staff, communicate needs and requirements with the operations group, keep management informed of risks to the organization, and maintain positive relationships with regulators. This position is expected to actively participate with trade associations or peer groups to support industry initiatives, studies, rulemakings, and agency interactions. The position will report to the Director of Environmental and will be located in downtown Houston, TX. Level and salary commensurate with background and experience. Essential Job Functions Conceptualize, develop, implement, and review large and complex environmental programs, systems, and procedures to ensure companywide compliance for all environmental rules and regulations Effectively communicates recommendations, guidance and compliance updates to internal stakeholders on all environmental regulations and programs Exercises independent judgment to develop solutions Applies advanced knowledge of a particular environmental topic while working across a number of disciplines to obtain results Prepares reports such as annual compliance reports or audit reports and recommends corrective actions Conducts independent compliance assurance reviews and recommends improvements in processes, management systems, procedures, and operating equipment to comply with environmental requirements Responds to, investigates, and negotiates with agencies on high risk environmental incidents such as releases, complaints, NOVs, and agency enforcement actions Performs due diligence on possible and current merger and acquisition activities Maintains expert knowledge and acts as an internal authority on existing and proposed environmental regulations Provides coaching, mentorship and training environmental staff Agencies Establish and maintain positive relationships with local, State, and federal environmental agencies This job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities of the position. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering or a related degree Minimum 15 years of experience of related environmental experience Professional Engineer (PE) License Must have extensive environmental experience as a degreed professional or equivalent related environmental experience and training as a non-degreed professional Possesses basic working knowledge of oil and gas exploration and production technologies Expert Knowledge of environmental laws; including but not limited to Clean Air Act, RCRA, SDWA, CERCLA, SARA, Clean Water Act, and various state environmental laws Considered an expert in area of technical applications Must have advanced mathematical, science and analytical abilities Must understand oil and gas processes and equipment Must possess effective written and oral communication skills Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Must be able to travel, prepare written communications, present information to others, enter data into various programs Communicates effectively with colleagues, superiors, vendors, and regulators Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess the ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, copier, files, telephone, and fax; maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
