Job Summary
The ET Principal Control Systems - Software Eng. will act as the for the Digital Transformation - Industry 4.0 and machines automation control systems Subject Matter Expert (SME). This position will be responsible for employing technical knowledge to offer solutions to expand the capabilities of existing automation systems and develop new ones as per the digital strategy in our GMP production environment. The position will be required to solve technical challenges across the intersection of automation, process and equipment including software and hardware, as well as leading development activities through third-party equipment, suppliers and systems integrators.
The Control Systems Engineer will work with the Project management and Integration team providing technical recommendations and technical scope for internal customer projects that improve the capabilities, efficiency and reliability of the manufacturing operation existing automation systems while having the ability to design, fabricate and implement new solutions. This person will also utilize a systematic approach to diagnose and resolve controls and automation issues. The successful candidate must have attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot complex electromechanical systems and have a commitment to continuous improvement.
This position plays an strategic and tactical role providing direct promotion and technical guidance for the design and deployment of the Digital Transformation Industry 4.0 with emphasis on Operations Technology (OT): Centralized Data Hub open architecture, UNS, MQTT, OPC-UA, SCADA, Historian, Edge software, industrial networks, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Manufacturing Execution System (MES), Python programming language, cloud applications, services and analytics.
The candidate will have full responsibility to develop automation architectures, automation functional specifications, and system integration requirements to satisfy process and manufacturing requirements in support of the technical roadmap.
This role will be responsible for partnering with engineering leadership to define and communicate strategic plans around our Engineering Technology Technical Roadmap. This person will engage both Engineering leadership and stakeholders across the company to ensure alignment around the interconnected initiatives and projects that support the Technical Roadmap. You can think of this role as being focused on the high-level view, connecting, and enabling teams to successfully plan their own roadmaps within the context of upcoming changes.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical direction for the assigned area and system(s) to ensure a compliant and reliable supply of product and on time project execution with production shop floor sponsorship as needed.
Providing technical guidance/sponsorship including authoring or review and approval of Automation Specification, Design Specification, Automation Installation Qualification, Automation Operation Qualification, change control, and other key automation related documents
Taking a direct role in installing and placing new equipment into operation. Using technical knowledge to assure the efficient operation of a variety of automated processing and information technology systems.
Appreciation of manufacturing standards/ processes and ability to translate manufacturing regulations into Automation/digital solution
Willingness to work closely with various site and central groups in order to ensure control systems are designed, implemented and maintained in a manner to ensure manufacturing standards are met
Providing direct sponsorship for regulatory inspections and audits and other validation activities by serving as the subject matter expert
Accountable for trouble-shooting equipment / automation issues to improve manufacturing performance (yield, cycle time, reliability, etc.) and maintaining the automation systems in compliance with current Good Manufacturing Principles (cGMPs)
Provide training and serving as a technical resource and mentor for junior engineers
Design solutions to ensure quality and stability of automation systems through future expansions, replacements, or upgrades.
Develops solutions for automation problems. Oversees investigations of automation anomalies to prevent recurrence.
Comprehend and support all cGMPs, safety, and environmental regulations.
Periodically reviews automation documents, performs preventive maintenance, and revises or develops automation Standard Operating Procedures.
Promoting factory expansion by working with vendors to ensure control system hardware components are designed, set up and installed properly.
Works with technical leadership to advance and facilitate the long-term vision and goals for the Technical Roadmap of Engineering Technology team.

Drives day-to-day project activity to achieve results including solving technical and other project challenges, managing resource conflicts, breaking down barriers to meet product quality, and company goals and objectives.
Ensure all peripheral activities are planned, completed, and communicated to all stakeholders.
Prepares for and conducts project phase gate reviews.

Creates and maintains dashboards to report on the progress of projects to all stakeholders and the Leadership Team.

Qualifications, Education and Experience Requirements
A Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Science discipline is required; Master's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline is preferred
5-10 years of experience delivering cross functional and multidisciplinary projects
5-10 years of experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior management
5-10 years of experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams
Operations Technology (OT)
5-10 years of relative professional experience with demonstrated success designing, developing, and implementing, robust state of the art control solutions using machine/motion control systems, robotics systems, and electro-mechanical systems
Manufacturing plant experience
Experience developing advanced applications through PLC, motion controls, pneumatic automation, safety devices, sensors, high-level languages, and robotic programming skills
Experience using one or more Industrial Control Programming and Development Environments
Prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing.
2D and 3D design tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
Skills and Abilities
Minimum of five (5) years working in a production regulated industry
Knowledge of medical devices processing and automation systems in cGMP environment
