Develops, evaluates, and improves welding and fabrication activities using knowledge of welding processes, product design, materials, welding codes, and welding technologies. The Level 2 tech is expected to possess a high level of technical proficiency and is capable of planning jobs and managing small projects with limited supervision.

Primary Job Responsibilities
Performs all functions of the Welding Engineering Tech 1 plus the following higher level duties:
Defines welding requirements, specifies processes procedures, and defines production routing requirements with little supervision.
Assists with welding research projects including new technologies and welding automation
Designs fixtures, tooling, and custom machinery
Confers with Demand Management, Purchasing, and Quality Assurance to determine supplier qualifications as well as develop/improve outside processes and services
Assists management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other production and operations issues
Assists with quotations for specialty project and new-product development proposals
Ensures department compliance with the Wagstaff Quality System
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or related technical discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant welding experience
Or, an Associate of Arts/Science degree in Welding Technology, Manufacturing Technology or related technical discipline and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant welding experience
Or, a High School diploma or GED and ten (10) years of technical experience as a practicing welder or welding operator plus demonstrated writing proficiency and proficiency with general business and modeling/drafting software
Direct knowledge of GTAW, GMAW, SAW, and SMAW processes
AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential is preferred and, depending on the job assignment, may be required.
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, work is performed primarily in an adequately lit, well-ventilated, climate-controlled general office environment. Close computer work is regularly required. The work usually involves minimal physical exertion. The noise level in the general office environment is usually moderate.
This job may require occasional or more frequent interaction with employees on the manufacturing shop floor. While on the shop floor, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks of moving equipment and parts, and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment. Because of this environment and associated risks, coordination with shop floor managers/employees may be necessary before entering the shop floor, and use of job-appropriate personal protective equipment.
