Overview

The Engineering Technician V performs the set-up, calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments, and mechanical integrated assemblies. The Engineering Technician V may determine and develop manufacturing and test specifications, methods, and procedures from blueprints, drawings, and diagrams. This position requires root cause troubleshooting and recommended rework/repair on assemblies and/or systems as a result of investigative troubleshooting and testing. The Engineering Technician V shall work with electrical and mechanical engineers on NPI projects as well as legacy product troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the set-up, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of RF circuits, RF components, instruments, and mechanical assemblies using network analyzers and other electrical and mechanical measuring devices and equipment.
  • Perform bench top testing of waveguide (WG) and coaxial components and assemblies such as couplers, transitions, pressure windows, isolators, circulators, switches, low noise amplifiers, diplexers and filters for VSWR, insertion loss, phase and other test measurements in the X and Ku frequency bands.
  • Perform evaluation reports for service of customer returned assets.
  • Verifies and analyses test results. Troubleshoots repairs and adjusts equipment so that their performance complies with test requirements, and assures the quality of the product. Determines when rework is necessary to ensure product compliance with specifications.
  • Manual assembly operations are required as part of the test function to include using various conductive and non-conductive epoxies to install loads, tuning element's, and end caps.
  • Assist engineering with the fabrication of WG components and assembly prototypes.
  • Ability to perform product verification testing for customer/government source inspector.


Qualifications

Minimum:

Associate's Degree in either electrical or mechanical engineering technology with a minimum of four to six years of experience in WG diplexer and filter manufacturing and test or equivalent. In lieu of degree 2-4 years of related experience can be considered.

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of six to eight years of experience in WG diplexer and filter manufacturing and test or equivalent

Preferred:

  • J-STD-001 certified for solder and/or IPC-A-610 certified for inspection
  • Experienced in calibrating and operating network analyzers and various RF/microwave test equipment
  • Experience with soldering microwave and waveguide components and assemblies
  • Candidate must be able to work under limited supervision
