Job Summary:
PIC Group is seeking an Engineering Supervisor to oversee and supervise design teams that are responsible for the physical design of transmission and substation projects. The Engineering Supervisor reports to the Senior Director of Transmission and Substation and will be located out of the Marietta, GA office. The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for providing technical competency and direction on complex engineering projects to ensure cost-effective and high-quality work products are provided for each project. The Engineering Supervisor will manage project schedules and budgets, support proposal development and project cost estimating, and support business development efforts. The Engineering Supervisor will be involved in the design of substation and renewable projects, including battery energy storage systems and solar collector substations. The position offers excellent salary, benefits, and annual bonus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and improve processes for substation physical design project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for substation projects
- Create QA/QC checklists to improve physical designs for utility stations through 500kV, including substation arrangements, sections, and elevations, foundation and grading plans, lighting plans and details, fence plans and details, grounding plans and details, rigid bus designs, strain bus designs, below grade designs to include duct banks and cable trenches, bus and equipment support structures, as well as a fundamental understating of circuit arrangements into and out of a substation
- Proficient in creating grounding studies and designs
- Perform and produce reports for bus calculations, lightning protection calculations, and use software for ground grid designs
- Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters.
- Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients
Job Requirements:
- Leadership and communication skills commensurate with leading a team of technical professionals in Engineering, Design and Drafting
- Ability to supervise 4 to 8 direct reports
- Advanced understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements, lightning protection, grounding, lighting, equipment specifics, and substation construction as it applies to utility substation and transmission line equipment facilities
- Understanding of basic needs of protection and control and civil/structural discipline as they apply to utility substation and transmission lines
- Subject Matter Expert in the installation requirements of high voltage transformers, group operated disconnect switches, breakers, PTs, CCVTs, line turners, surge arresters, and other equipment within the substation
- Industry expert in checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
- Ability to create written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings
- Ability to lead a team of engineers and designers in a lead engineer capacity
- Ability to create, reinforce, and improve technical teams in the execution of Engineering designs for clients and the delivery of projects with high quality, on time, and budget
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting at workstation for extended periods of time viewing monitors
- Working on keyboard and using computer mouse
- When visiting client sites must follow site safety rules and work in all weather conditions
Education / Experience:
- 8+ years' experience as a practicing engineer
- Bachelor's degree from an EAC/ABET (Education Advisory Committee / Accreditation Board for Engineering & Technology) accredited Engineering Program OR an approved evaluation of non-ABET credentials by NCEES (National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying) OR graduation from a Masters or Doctoral Program in Engineering from an institution with EAC/ABET accredited Undergraduate Engineering Programs
