The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), founded in 1908, is a professional association of more than 60,000 chemical engineers worldwide. AIChE fosters and disseminates chemical engineering knowledge, supports the professional and personal growth of its members, and applies the expertise of its members to address societal needs and improve the quality of life.

The AIChE Program Development team develops and implements AIChE's chemical engineering conferences, including the AIChE Spring and Annual Meetings and over forty specialty conferences on a multitude of topics that serve a broad range of chemical engineers, from bioengineering and food science to process development and industry 4.0. The team works closely with volunteers to develop the technical program of each conference and serves as the overall lead project manager working with cross-functional groups within AIChE.

We are seeking an Engineering Specialist to manage and grow multiple projects for our team.

Position Summary

The successful Engineering Specialist will be expanding and implementing strategic initiatives within AIChE's conferences portfolio while developing growth opportunities in Chemical Engineering specialized areas, including the creation of new or expanded conferences. The individual will work on select volunteer committees and in the strategic planning for AIChE's Program Development department and conferences.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Associate Director, Program Development, the Engineering Specialist will achieve the following objectives:

  • Grow the top line revenue of conferences and implement business models to sustain growth
  • Provide business plans for new initiatives for analysis and review
  • Promote and develop innovative activities for major conferences and other events
  • Develop and lead coalitions of volunteers to from industry, academia and government to develop innovative and high quality technical conference programming for new and existing AIChE conferences of all sizes
  • Collaborate across cross-functional groups (sales, marketing, meeting logistics, AIChE Foundation, etc.) to develop, organize and market conferences
  • Manage budgets for assigned conferences
  • On as needed basis, attend external events to network and make connections for future conferences

Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • BS degree in chemical engineering or related disciplines preferred
  • 3-5 years of applicable technical project management experience in chemical process industries
  • Experience organizing technical events, highly desirable
  • Basic knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles
  • General technical knowledge of chemical engineering and related disciplines
  • Prior experience with volunteer organizations a plus

Location & Travel

  • This position may be a hybrid with a work from home option - the individual must reside within commuting distance of the New York City Global Office. Or the position may be fully remote if the individual lives outside of the NYC tristate area.
  • Approximately 15% travel required (national and/or international)
