Position Summary: The Shape Corp student engineering program provides students with the opportunity to gain exposure to the manufacturing process in a variety of engineering disciplines. Students can enhance their college experience by working in a challenging and dynamic workplace, gaining invaluable experience for next steps in their careers.
Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:
Application of engineering calculations.
Manage projects across multiple disciplines within Shape.
Create technical documents summarizing data analysis and conclusions.
Ability to present technical information.
Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor, not otherwise specified in this position description.
Test Engineering Interns
Low speed impact testing- Setup and perform crash testing on automotive bumper systems using a test car with speeds up to 15mph as well as pedestrian impact testing up to 30mph.
Materials testing - Perform tensile testing, Rockwell hardness testing and Vickers microhardness testing to determine material properties used for manufacturing or CAE modelling.
Fixture fabrication - Fabrication of test fixtures or equipment using welding, milling/drilling, saw cutting, turning, and laser cutting. Prior experience is not required
Data acquisition/LabView Programming - Use and implement National Instruments Labview programming software to design test software and acquisition programs. The student will gain a firm foundation on how to specify instrumentation and how to implement instrumentation as problem solving tools.
Static and Durability Testing -Setup and help perform static and fatigue testing on automobile tow hooks, truck hitches, office furniture, etc. using pneumatic and hydraulic test equipment.
Benchmarking activities - Perform and document full dimensional and material analysis of products that lie within Shape's product scope. Products include, but limited to the following: automotive bumper systems, office cubicles, office chairs, hitches, automobile frame structure, automobile door beams, active grille shutters, etc.
Process Engineering Interns
Study and implement equipment design improvements.
Study and define optimum processing windows.
Document and present all study findings via reports and/or operator instructions.
Introduction to Six Sigma and problem solving using the DMAIC process.
Statistical analysis including DoE.
Electrical Engineering Intern
Update electrical schematics and process revisions to machine control systems.
Design and implement PLC/Operator interface programs using GE-Fanuc and Allen-Bradley software, or toerh company specific software as needed.
Support manufacturing production by leading troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
Develop work instructions for machines and production operations.
Design and integrate controls for simple process improvements.
Design electrical schematics including 480V - 3 Phase distributions, safety systems, communication wiring and low voltage signal diagrams using CAD software.
Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Create simple tool and fixture designs in AutoCAD or Solidworks.
Support continuous improvement activities.
Support in troubleshooting and problem solving of production issues.
Create/revise operator instructions for various activities on the shop floor.
Support asset management (transfers of equipment/tooling).
Support annual safety audits of equipment.
Support plant layout management including revisions and future plant layout planning.

Trumpf TruTops offline programing and 8030 cutting operation.

Requirements:
Education & Experience
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree within an accredited program seeking degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or other relevant science or engineering field.
3.0 GPA or higher on 4.0 GPA scale.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Able to work independently and with a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong analytical, statistical and problem-solving skills.
