Summary

Our Utilimaster team is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager at our Fleet Vehicles & Services manufacturing facility in Bristol, IN, as we continue to move ahead of the competition when delivering products and services that require precision, planning, and the perfect vehicle.

As Electrical Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for guiding and directing a team of highly skilled engineers and designers who are driven to deliver the most well-designed and reliable fleet vehicles and upfit solutions in the industry. A significant portion of your role will involve defining project requirements, goals, scope, tasks, and timelines, and for creating design solutions that utilize commonality to reduce proliferation and utilize Lean and 6 Sigma techniques and methodologies.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Ensuring that your team has access to an abundance of skill and career development opportunities
  • Tracking your team's performance results with use of the engineering department skill matrix
  • Conducting annual performance evaluations for your direct reports
  • Taking ownership of cost, weight, investment, complexity, and lead time of Utilimaster products
  • Conducting design reviews and facilitating communications between departments
  • Organizing, directing, and assigning maintenance drawing creation projects to engineers and designers
  • Delivering engineering solutions and revisions to other teams within The Shyft Group via component drawings, assembly and installation drawings, and Engineering Change Notices
  • Creating and maintaining design standards and guidelines for components and assemblies
  • Providing technical support to colleagues in Customer Service, Warranty, and Quality
  • Representing Utilimaster Engineering during customer site visits and customer pilot reviews
  • Providing design solutions that exceed customer expectations for quality, cost, performance, and timing
  • Driving departmental projects aimed at reducing product cost and complexity
  • Resolving assembly and fabrication issues related to design activities
  • Reviewing and approving completed drawings, designs, and Engineering Change Notices
  • Overseeing bill of materials for your assigned fleet vehicle segment
  • Be able to represent Utilimaster Engineering in litigation cases requiring subject matter experts
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and requirements, the Utilimaster lean checklist, and engineering documentation standards

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 7+ years of new product development experience
  • 5+ years of engineering project management expertise
  • Strong familiarity working within a design environment utilizing SOLIDWORKS
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effective Analysis (FMEA), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience utilizing database management tools
  • 2+ years of experience managing or supervising an engineering staff of 4 or more people
  • Track record of providing technical leadership of cross-functional project teams

  • Experience with utilizing Lean and Six Sigma tools, such as Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)
