Electrical Engineer - Duties and Qualifications

An Electrical Engineer oversees a project from inception to completion including generation of drawings; specification of all electrical components to be used on the equipment in a bill of material; providing specialized start-up and/or troubleshooting at customer sites; support to the Service Department and the Manufacturing Plant.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and engineer crane electrical systems in adherence to National Electric Code (NFPA70), CMAA, OSHA and all other applicable codes.
• Prepare electrical drawings.
• Specify size and type of electrical components to be used.
• Prepare electrical bill of material reflecting electrical components required for complete assembly.
• Support the manufacturing plant during fabrication and assembly of crane.
• Provide assistance during testing and start-up of the crane in the manufacturing plant.

• Provide "specialized" start-up at the customer site on more sophisticated cranes including supervising installation; electrical "hook-up"; start-up, troubleshooting and commissioning of the complete crane; working closely with the customer; creating and maintaining a sound relationship between our company and the customer.

• Review drawings completed by fellow engineers and perform estimate of components and labor hours on "specialty" jobs.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Education and Training Requirements

ASEET minimum, BSEE or BSEET preferred; PE desired but not required

Experience Requirements

• Previous material handling industry and machine design helpful
• Knowledge of NEC; CMAA; OSHA
• Ability to work with little or no supervision using established guidelines, procedures and in accordance with company policies

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work a minimum of full-time hours; overtime required based on Engineering Department schedules
• Ability to do occasional local day travel as well as overnight travel when required for a customer
• Ability to work in outside weather conditions when required
• Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places
• Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and vibration.

• Hand/eye coordination is necessary to operate drafting instruments, computers, and various pieces of office equipment

• Occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle and/or operate objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate; smell

• Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds

• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
