Role - Responsibilities
We are seeking an Electrical Design Supervisor to perform the following:
- Join the USG in-house engineering team to provide electrical engineering design support to over 50 manufacturing plants in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
- This position will work on large and small industrial projects and will report directly to the Electrical Design Supervisor. The position is responsible for electrical design and review of large Capital Projects and support of daily requests from the pants for electrical engineering.
- Manage their own time to work efficiently on multiple projects at once.
- Execute the assigned projects by providing technical expertise in the electrical discipline.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with customers, suppliers, 3rd party engineering firms and colleagues.
- Supervise and guide engineers.
- Lead the electrical design on various assigned projects.
- Provide electrical design project leadership for projects assigned to meet project goals as well as provide technical input to 3rd party engineering firms to maintain company standards.
- Develop preliminary electrical design deliverables such as Scope of Work, Material Take-offs and man-hour estimates for various levels of estimate preparations.
- Evaluate construction documents including bid packages, vendor drawings, and specifications.
- Coordinate design work with other disciplines, project leaders and plant operations personnel.
- Develop and maintain a project plan identifying key tasks and current state of all electrical design deliverables.
- Perform on-site electrical infrastructure walk-downs at industrial facilities with little or no supervision to assess existing conditions.
- Provide electrical assistance both remotely and on-site to construction teams as well as operating plants for resolving electrical issues.
- Work with operations personnel to ensure compatibility with plant equipment and procedures.
- Ensure the company's safety values and practices are adhered to in all designs and plant modifications.
- Attend project meetings to understand scope, schedule, and budget to develop and design the project needs with no supervision.
Qualifications - Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four- year engineering program.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with cross functional internal groups, outside vendors, contractors, and actively participate in cross functional teams to successfully complete all objectives.
- Professional Engineering License preferred but not a requirement (preferably in multiple states of which USG has facilities).
- Must have 8 years' experience in industrial electrical design inclusive of in-field construction experience.
- Experience in supervising engineers required.
- Served as lead electrical engineer on major projects.
- Extensive and diverse knowledge of relevant Codes, Standards, Engineering Principles and Practices required to produce safe, efficient, reliable, easy to operate and maintain, cost effective designs in electrical engineering.
- Working experience in AutoCAD design or similar software; as well as strong PC skills in Microsoft Office Applications especially Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as remote meeting applications (Cisco WebEx, MS TEAMS Calls).
- Excellent verbal, written and decision-making skills within the tasks of executing assignments for USG Corporation.
- Willingness and ability to travel to industrial facilities in U.S., Canada and Mexico up to 20% of the time.
- Self-starter with good organizational skills to be able to handle multiple activities.
- Has a high level of integrity to maintain data security.
- Must have demonstrated electrical project skills and abilities from project inception, including written scope of work, estimating cost in terms of equipment, material, and labor, implementing, and completing project activities, including making drawings, writing specifications, performing calculations, evaluating and recommending vendor proposals, startup and commissioning, and project completion.
