Job Overview



Job Summary:

Supervises and directly supports the Electrical, Controls, and HVAC maintenance shop electricians, facility control system administrator, controls technicians, and HVAC technicians.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs the supervisory duties including full range of recruitment, staff development and performance evaluation activities.
  • Manages all critical facilities electrical, controls, and HVAC equipment on campus, creating and implementing preventative maintenance strategies as well as equipment life cycle replacement plans
  • Supervise work schedules and assignments
  • Supervise preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance programs for maintenance staff.
  • Creates, provides and implements training plans and career paths for staff; training to include internal and external formal training.
  • Participate in internal and external audits.
  • Leads the investigations of campus related maintenance issues
  • Lead departmental efforts in the Process Excellence program by identifying projects and ensure implementation
  • Coordinates support from outside vendors for facilities equipment support functions.
  • Monitoring of budgets and operational costs
  • Advises less experienced staff on skills improvement
  • Monitor the work environment to assure the working conditions are and remain safe and meet all relevant safety requirements.
  • Back up for Supervisor in other shops
  • Manage plant site events such as Utility outages, emergencies, etc.
  • Manages small capital projects for Facilities equipment
  • Work closely with the planner/scheduler in managing CMMS backlog.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains departmental and company SOP's and Guidelines
  • Provides monthly reporting on budgets, productivity statistics, and departmental measurements.
  • Develop and implement initiatives for improving maintenance deficiencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education/Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in engineering related field or trade school with courses in maintenance, sciences, or skilled trades.
  • Effective organizational skills with commitment to deadlines
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing business needs
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience may be substituted for education


Experience:

  • 5 years of related experience and/or 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Covance's facility stockroom supply procurement and management.
  • Experience in a GxP environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computerized asset and work order management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to read schematics and blueprints
  • Process Excellence/Six Sigma Training desired
  • Ability to perform intermediate/advanced computer skills (e.g., MS Office, Visio).

  • Exposure to greases, oil, solvents, additives and live steam
  • GXP/ISO regulated environment.
  • Exposure to noise, heat, and cold.
  • Personal protective equipment required to be worn for some work settings.
  • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
