Key Responsibilities
- Engineering of distribution civil projects through the entire project lifecycle: from conceptual and feasibility, though detailed design, to construction and service
- Leading and supporting underground civil work (duct bank, manhole and vaults) and the supporting infrastructure improvements on projects (road upgrades, waterline relocations, etc).
- Defining civil scopes of work, completing cost estimates, performing engineering calculations, and developing detailed design drawings.
- Utilizing expertise of general civil designs and acting as a resource for industry codes, standards, and construction methods. Working knowledge of design standard in North America
- Supporting the preparation of technical specifications, tender documents, and technical reports
- Providing construction support and overall project engineering coordination
- Responding to information requests during construction and completing project documentation including preparation of record drawings
- Maintaining and enhancing relationships with other design disciplines and external stakeholders and assist team leads and managers
- Traveling and visiting project sites during design and construction
Skills / Qualifications
- Undergraduate engineering degree (or diploma) in Civil Engineering. Strong preference if able to register with EGBC
- 2+ years of relevant design experience on underground distribution projects
- Knowledge of utility civil design practices including the selection and installation methods of ducts and ductbanks, manholes, vaults, junction boxes, equipment pads and other distribution equipment
- Knowledge and experience with (but not limited too): site development, grading and drainage design, site utilities / tie-ins, erosion control, and road design
- Experience using AutoCAD & Civil 3D
- Experience preparing material take off's and bill of material lists
- Experience estimating civil construction costs
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Able to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Able to apply sound engineering judgement to resolve technical issues
- Able to take on responsibility for high-profile projects
