Job Overview
Job Summary: The Director of Engineering position is a key strategic and leadership role that sits at the intersection of Dynex's hardware and software development. This person will expand and evolve the organization to meet the demanding growth of the business and to build scalable products and processes for the future of Dynex. As a key role in the organization, this person will help define the technical strategy and roadmap of device hardware and software.
Requirements:Essential Functions: The Director of Engineering is responsible for identifying and developing software system applications and hardware product development for our continuously expanding fleet of automated systems. Starting from the first time an automated system is provisioned until its end-of-life, the Director of Engineering takes a system-oriented approach crafting solutions that take software, hardware, user experience, people, and processes into account to provide the best results for our users. Some of the responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Act as the SME for Product hardware, firmware, and operations systems configuration.
- Guide software technology and architecture documentation related to software development such as Software requirements specifications, Architecture and Data Flow diagrams.
- Lead the team to document, analyze, create, and test systems - both hardware and software aspects for state-of-the-art medical devices.
- Build high-quality, innovative, and fully performing software that complies with coding standards and technical design.
- Analyze systems techniques and procedures, including consulting with clients to determine and create hardware, software and/or system functional requirement specifications.
- Manage a team of engineers, set high team performance expectations that meet and exceeds project goals which will result in robust and efficient value streams.
- Create concise and intelligent design requirements through collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders.
- Build prototypes for evaluation and testing.
- Coordinate cross-functional design reviews at an advanced level in various work situations.
- Utilize product validation and verification processes to install, setup, calibrate and operate equipment associated with testing in accordance with standard procedures.
- Provide strong leadership to management, direct and indirect reports.
- Interface with key stakeholders to ensure system level features function as expected.
- Perform black box system and regression testing.
- Monitor global regulatory changes and emerging technologies related to embedded hardware and Medical Device Software (MDSW).
Supervisory Responsibilities: Approximately 3-4 direct reports.
Success Factors:
- Extensive experience in software and/or hardware testing in medical devices field.
- Strong background with test equipment/test tool design and implementation including the appropriate levels of qualification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Program/Project Management.
- Experience and knowledge of global medical device regulations, requirements, and standards, such as FDA, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, ISO 5055 AND EUMDR.
- Leadership experience in various aspects of product development.
- Cross-collaboration among leadership (Commercial, Ops, Finance)
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
- Influential relationships skills. Able to use these relationships to deliver service improvements.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

- Experience in problem analysis, testing, and resolution.
- Experience with risk management methodologies, trending, design control, threat modelling, vulnerability ranking, and product enhancements (bug fixes/ patch delivery).
Minimum Qualifications / Education:
- A four-year degree in an engineering field.
- Minimum 10+ years related experience.
- Proven, successful experience driving positive change and influencing enhanced performance.
- Must possess a deep understanding of the importance of aligning departmental targets with the business KPI's.
Computer Skills: Competent in use of MS Office, Outlook, relevant CRM's and design process tracking software.
Work Environment: Office.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) Standards.
