Job Details


Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Requirements


Lead the chassis engineering team comprised of powertrain, battery, electrical and electronics engineering teams to drive the design and development of automotive electrification systems for Class 8 truck applications


Lead and guide engineering managers to ensure on-time delivery per program milestones


Develop and launch new products to the customer in accordance with the strategic vision and business timelines


Manage engineering partners and Tier 1 suppliers to ensure that all projects are on track


Lead requirements and specifications of powertrain, high voltage battery, thermal, electrical, electronics and other related sub-systems and components


Develop and manage performance & cost models and technology roadmaps


Identify Tier 1 suppliers, support supplier selection process and manage engineering service suppliers.


Ensure product meets functional, FMVSS and ISO requirements


Interpret customer and marketing team requirements to generate system and sub-system product specifications to drive design and development


Lead the creation of key APQP documents including FMEAs and DVP&Rs to drive product reliability and robustness


Actively mentor and coach engineering team members in various areas including design, simulation, and product validation


Support the development of company product roadmaps supported by extensive industry and product knowledge


Partner with procurement and manufacturing teams for strategic buy and make decisions


Define and implement strategies for synergies among the programs adopting a modular approach, minimizing complexity, and leveraging technology/architecture re-use


Drive value optimization and quality improvement programs


Work closely with product development and manufacturing engineering to support the transfer of released designs to production.


Work with suppliers and strategic partners to exchange technical information to drive the product roadmap


Partner with outside engineering partners to deliver world-class products while in parallel continuing to build the capabilities of the internal team


Provide strategic design direction to the team to ensure that Hyliion is making the correct design decisions balancing key product attributes such as performance and cost

Job Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Requirements


Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing


Experience in powertrain and battery system modelling, system specification development and component selection


Experience designing, developing, and producing cutting-edge powertrain, engine, hybrid, high voltage battery and electrified components


Experience in the automotive sector and understanding of automotive systems, program management, and industry standards


Track record of improving quality and on time delivery across the engineering organization


Experience establishing and working in partnerships with global suppliers


Solid track record of delivering results


Proven experience in planning, organizing, and maintaining relationships with internal customer organizations.


Automotive industry and associated toolset expertise (FMEAs, DVP&Rs)


Experience working with cross-functional teams to develop product technology roadmaps


Required Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering


15+ Years of Engineering Experience


10+ years of product development experience in powertrain systems with a strong understanding of powertrain, electric motors, controllers, high voltage battery systems, and control systems


Experience in automotive industry


Expertise in high voltage and associated safety protocols


Expertise in vehicle electrification, powertrain and vehicle certification standards, drivetrain, battery technologies, electrical and wiring systems, NVH, instrumentation and methodologies


Preferred Qualifications


Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering


Strong understanding of Class-8 trucks, their sub-systems and application requirements including vehicle controls, powertrain integration, air conditioning and electrical systems


Experience in CFD, EMC or Thermal Analysis


Experienced in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of structural systems


Experience in the automotive sector and understanding of automotive systems, program management, and industry standards


Experience in ISO 26262 safety standards and vehicle safety systems


Experience in vehicle controls, calibration, and software


Other Qualifications


Strong follow-through and self-starting nature


Ability to communicate with customers (internal and external) in an effective and positive way both written and verbally, to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments


Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions


Position will involve travel (10-15% of time) to visit, work with, and evaluate engineering providers and hardware suppliers


Ability to work well in a high-paced environment, set and meet appropriate deadlines
