Engineering Lab Technician-Plastic Injection Molding

Job Responsibilities

Your specific duties as an Engineering Lab Technician-Plastic Injection Molding will include:

• Perform tasks related to product prototype and testing under various degrees of supervision (depending on experience) in the Research and Development Plastics Lab by performing the following duties:
• Reviews project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, and test equipment availability.
• Prepare materials for use in testing and prototype manufacturing.
• Ability to design and build Tooling Aids, Test Fixtures, Holding Fixtures, Specialized Test Stations.
• Ability to modify existing parts or create all new parts by machining metal or plastic raw materials.
• Setup and operate various machines and equipment such as milling machines, lathe, welding, band saws, drill presses, pipe cutter, pipe sizer, mechanical and hydraulic power presses, press brake, etc.
• Use various hand tools and precision measuring tools including torque wrenches, calipers, micrometers, test indicators, etc.
• Conduct tests per instructions, collect and record data and complete and distribute Test Reports.
• Produce prototypes according to operation and inspection instructions; complete required forms (tube forming & connector assembly - compared to gauge or print).
• Work closely with Requestor to resolve issues if problems arise during Testing, Prototype Builds, etc
• Organize and maintain prototype inventory and equipment.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of (2) years related experience and/or training.
• Basic Measurement & Calibration Skills using precision measuring tools and equipment.
• Molding and Stamping Press Setup and Operation experience preferred.
• Machine Tool experience - Engine Lathe, Milling Machines, Surface Grinder, Cut-Off/ Band Saw, etc...
• Electro-Mechanical experience - solenoid valves, relays, IRC circuits, wiring, pneumatic cylinders, etc. preferred.
• Familiar with operating typical Lab test equipment - Leak Rate Devices, Tensile Testers, Load Cells, Environmental Chambers, etc
• Proficiency in the PC environment and general computer skills such as email, spreadsheets, word processors, file navigation, and internet navigation must be demonstrated.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software applications preferred.
• Experience with data acquisition hardware and software a plus.
• Experience with National Instruments hardware and LabVIEW software preferred.
