Job Overview

Description:

POSITION TITLE: DIESEL TRUCK MECHANIC

DEPARTMENT: TRANSPORTATION

REPORTS TO: FLEET MAINTENANCE MANAGER

Summary:

Provides support for the vehicle maintenance department by diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical problems and repairing subsequent problems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Diagnose and repair class 8 trucks, trailers and cars using diagnostic tools.

2. Repair refrigeration units on trailers.

3. Lift heavy parts such as wheels, tires, brake drums, batteries, springs, etc.

4. Perform vehicle preventive maintenance

5. Operate equipment when troubleshooting and testing when repairs are made.

6. Keep accurate records of repairs and inspections

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines and electrical systems

2. Working knowledge of suspension systems, steering, brakes, HVAC and preventative maintenance

3. Process strong troubleshooting skills and ability to interpret manuals diagnostic tools

4. Ability to read and understand service manuals, schematics and instructions

5. Knowledge of trailer refrigeration units.

6. Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations

7. Skilled in proper and safe procedures associated with vehicle repairs.

8. Ability to work well with others and at times with minimal supervision.

9. Possess own tools to perform assigned tasks

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. High school graduate or equivalent and excellent math skills.

2. 2+ years of experience in a professional shop environment preferred

3. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain within 6 months
