Job Details

The role

This is a brand new role due to growth. Initially will be hands on, you will help scale the team and work with other engineers and as we hire it will be less hands on as we get more people to help execute the work.

We have an existing data pipeline, it's predominately Hadoop based, Kafka is the messaging bus, a lot of ETL in there, ultimately data warehouse which is more SQL based. Right now I would call it maintained. What we're getting ready to do is a full refresh on the platform to both grow it, update a number of the components as well as technologies and get it to the next level. This will be one of the bigger projects you'll take on once you join. This is a management role so you must have the ability to build a team that will ultimately build and support all of our platforms. This is the team that will be looking after that entire pipeline. We have massive data requirements, we're web-scale crawling massive amounts of data, we're injecting a lot of structured data, we're serving a lot of queries as well and all of that produces logging to be recorded to go through and also on the machine learning side as well we have back data sets of training data from ML so you will need to own holistically the whole data platform.

You Must Have

3-5+ years working in Data Engineering or Data Warehousing
2+ years leading teams of Engineers to deliver data platforms
Hands on experience working with streaming data platforms. Kafka with Spark, Samza or Flink ideal.
A variety of data storage technologies appropriate to their usage (from distributed storage, through to vast scale data lakes and data warehouses)
Experience in the Hadoop ecosystem (Cloudera, HDFS, Hive, Pig, Oozie a plus)
Database design and schema definition
Skilled with writing, monitoring and optimizing ETL/ELT processes
